I thought I'd share with you one of the things I bought at the last
auction I was at. This figurine is about 8 1/2 inches high. The two
boxers are captioned "SPPING KANGAM"
It's heavily crazed all over, and looks dirty, but much of that "dirt"
was painted on. There is no hole in the base:
Or on the back:
Instead, it is between one boxer's feet:
(sorry for the out of focus.)
It's not high quality, there is an obvious flaw in one guy's elbow:
More pics, a close-up of the base:
and another overall view:
I searched the web for Spping and Kangam. Spping turns up some pages with Oriental
characters. Kangam is another name for an island off Madagascar.
This sure looks like a Staffordshire figure to me. If anyone else
would care to share their thoughts about it, its probable age, or
signifigance, I'd much appreciate it. (How does one pronounce
"Spping" anyhow?)
Even if you can't tell me anything about it, I hope you enjoy looking.

Hi, mcat
I've seen that fake crazing on all kinds of pottery items, in the past
ten years or so. I think it's new, made to look old.
Interesting piece, though. I have no idea what those words relate
to, unless each refers to the name of the fighter immediately above.
I believe the word Kangam is Korean.
