I just accquired a 1932 GE monitor top refrigerator in need of new
weatherstrip around the door. Not bad for something that's almost 75
years old. And it still runs perfectly! My question is, what type of
weather stripping will work? Is this something I can order through JC
Whitney (automotive grade), or will the standard stuff from Home Depot
do the trick?

Good luck with it . Please have it checked by an electrician, and
keep us posted on the power usage.

PS - anyone who tries to sell an old, very heavy item on eBay
deserves more than $75 for their trouble. Try it and see ;)

Are you planning on using this thing, or selling it? If you're merely
selling it, you can use a "new old stock" gasket. But if you're going
to use it, you'll need a NEW gasket. There really isn't much to them;
a full-service appliance store should be able to help you.

Have you tried searching the web for this kind of part? The web is full of
companies that sell and service old ranges, refrigerators, etc.

Back in the seventies, I rented a house with a big mother very old chest
type of deep freeze with a smaller lid to the right that was actually a
refrigerator. It had been converted in the 40's from 50 to 60 cycle by
Toronto Hydro. Weatherstrip was gone crumbling away so I took a chunk
of it to an dependant appliance parts wholesaler and they had a
virtually identical strip (generic) that they sold by the yard. I
installed it but had to cut some darts in the part that went under the
clamp at the corners so it would bend.
