I have had in my china cabinet, for several years, an unused cutlery set. It
was given to my Mother in the 60's..and it has not been used.
Interestingly enough, all the research i did on this cutlery, shows me no
pattern name or even a picture on the Sheffield website of this particular
pattern.
The set is of knives and forks only 6 of each..and in its own sheffield
case. The markings on the knife blade are
a crowned circle, S.G.G. Warranted cutlery, Made by Sheffield stainless
steel.
Now to explain the pattern...kind of similiar to the 'stag horn' pattern,
looks like wood with the dark browns/light browns and lines running within.
The handle is NOT made of wood..just looks like the pattern wood..
So..if there's anyone who has a clue what kind of pattern this cutlery
is...and or where i can do more research on it, email me..and thanks in
advance,
Cheers,

Do they look like this?
If so, I agree with Kris.... "vintage" (not antique) 50's-60's Sheffield
cutlery. Don't listen to Doug, they're worth $10 not $100.

Kris..... and how do you know that she isn't a newbie who doesn't
understand usual protocol.
Get off your high horse and be a little nicer to people in the future.
I've read this NG for almost a year and I'm getting a little tired of
your attitude.

She obviously knows enough about the net to post photos to her own
website....just not enough to read the rules of the group she's posting
to or to lurk long enough to know how her request would be responded to.
Kris simply followed the rules by not emailing her privately and
letting her know why. She responded poorly as did you.
Hurray for Kris!!

Man,
Kris works harder then anyone at trying to help and look at the thanks.

And I don't disagree with that!
But, her treatment of new posters is what I'm commenting on, and from
emails that I've received, I'm not the only one who feels the same way.

The lurkers support you in email? That one's sung to the tune of
"My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean".

Anyway, I made my point. Enough said.

Andrea, usually when people want "more info," and they have the name of
the manufacturer, especially from the 60s (which are NOT antiques), it
means, "I want an appraisal."
Your Sheffield service, whatever the name of it is, is worth exactly
what you can get at auction, estate sale or yard sale. They aren't
rare; they were commonly given in the 60s as wedding presents, at least
around here. It sounds like a steak knife/fork set to me, but then I
haven't seen it. And I could be way off, too. Physically take it to a
local auctioneer and ask.

I had an answer all ready, then re-read and noted the "email me privately"
instructions. Oh, well.
I'm sure everyone else has already done it, no sense flooding her
with information.
