After months of hype, promotion and snarls from grumpy critics Katie
Couric makes
her much ballyhooed debut on the CBS evening news on Sept. 5th.

I have some fresh, growing grass in my yard that needs some serious
watching. Sorry Kayteee.

Ratings will be above average for at least the first week or so until
the novelty wears
off. It will be interesting to see if she can live up to the hype.
My guess is she will do at least an OK job but won't knock anybodys
socks off
breaking new ground.

The show with Rush Limbaugh on Thursday will likely be the
most watched CBS Evening News show in history.
The viewer numbers may peak on Thursday and then decline to the level
of Dan Rather's ratings or lower.
I suspect some Rush fans won't be watching because they can't
stand Couric. Rush will tell his listeners on Friday what they missed
by not watching CBS Evening News the night before. An unanswered
question is how many viewers will not watch the show because
Rush Limbaugh is contributing a 90 second commentary.

Well, I only caught a few minutes including the tail end of Morgan
Spurlock's commentary. I like the concept of a guest commentary
if they don't lose their nerve and really allow diverse viewpoints.
Rush Limbaugh is probably a good choice early on to show they will
allow a non-conformist viewpoint, not that I think he's a particularly
good representative of conservatism, but you at least can't accuse
him of being a CBS shill.
As for Katie, it seemed a rocky start in my opinion. That white
jacket was a real mistake. Way too distracting and not "serious."
She needs to work on her delivery, too.
