They said in the promo that there are only four more episodes to go.

If it does end, it will still be satisfying in a way. This show is
closer to the format of the old Saturday matinee serials than anything
since Buffy. I we get one good 15-chapter serial out of it we're OK.

Not "this season," just four more to the finale. This being 11, that
makes a total of only 15, which isn't a full season order. Has NBC
officially given notice that the show is toast? I hope not. It's the

I've seen nothing in the news to suggest that NBC has changed their mind
and decided to cancel Surface.
In fact, some in the news media have now labeled Surface a success
because it's already outlasted Threshold.
So I don't know what's going on with that promo.

only new show I'm still watching this season.

I was wondering about that too. I just checked nbc.com and on one board
a poster notes that NBC had listed the Feb 6th episode as the Season
Finale.
Hopefully they'll keep it on. It's head and tails above some other stuff
that's still not cancelled....like Ghost Meets Woman, Woman Shows Ghost
the Light....

Isn't it really like watching a 2 hour sea monster movie, broken up into
too many parts anyway? How can it go much longer than it already has without
putting us to sleep? Do we need to see Miles get married and have his own
kids?

If ever there was somebody who needs to NOT breed, it's Miles. As was true
of his parents before him.

Hey, they produced the Leighton Meester-creature too, and there
doesn't seem to be anything genetically wrong with her. They just
shouldn't have been allowed to _raise_ her.

True. She did seem to be overcoming her environment, and then suddenly was
gone.

I thought the exact wording of the promo said "tonight, the first of
five new episodes in a row".

I'm talking about the promo for upcoming episodes at the end. They
specifically said things like "with four episodes to go until the
finale" and "only four more new episodes."

Yeah, and they seemed to be promising an "all will be revealed"
episode, too.
Was it planned as an extended mini-series? Or maybe they got word
of cancellation early enough to write a wrap?
Or maybe the network is just being coy about longer-term plans in
the previews.

This also may have something to do with the upcoming Olympics, which may
have the effect of cutting the season in two for NBC.
