"Every Man for Himself"
10-25-06 Lost
Jonathan Roberts...

I'll give it a 3.5. We're gonna have to start seeing more of the field
rwgibson13...
|
And, hell, even the snippets we DO see we can't take at face value
because of all of the mind games going on.

thought he'd been hit in the face recently, by Sawyer or Jack.)

Two stars. I'd have given a lower rating if not for the mind games of
THE OTHERS. Who was in the flashbacks this week?
|
5 stars (U.S. Marines - leave no one behind)

4.0. Wow, some major headgames going here. *

5 Stars!!!!
Better and better every week. Still waiting for Vincent. Funniest part
weberm...
|
He's on the boat with Michael and "WALLLLLLLTT!!!!!11!!!11", remember?
Growltiger...
|
Well, to be fair, the scene with Vincent in the boat with Walt & Michael
was never broadcast. (For those without the benefit of the second
series DVD, there was an outtake where we see the trio depart from the
quay together.) If it is not broadcast then it is not canon.
|
David B...
|
Uh, no. That was in a behind the scenes segment of the DVDs. It was not in
the actual episode.
weberm...
|
Really? I never saw the DVD before.
|
|
Ryan Robbins...
|
How did he get there?
weberm...
|
I'm not sure, but I recall seeing him on the boat as they left.
bcattwood...
|
My "cousin-in-law" is Vincent's owner/trainer. We haven't heard
anything show related from her recently, but then we don't exactly keep
in touch very well either. I will see if I can get any intel on
whether "Vincent" has done any filming this season.
|
Stick Waver...
|
No - remember Walt "gave" Vincent to Shannon shortly befor the raft
took off.
Steven L....
|
According to the Season 2 DVD, Vincent was supposed to have left with
Michael and Walt on the boat, but such a scene was never broadcast.
Stick Waver...
|
But he didn't. There was a very touching scene in which Walt gives
Vincent to Shannon.
Major ChrisB...
|
douche not the raft...the BOAT.... the others put Michael, Walt and Vincent
(although we never saw him) on a boat at the end of season 2 and told them
it would take them home.

A quiet episode so that baseball fans don't get too lost...and we know
Jason Maxwell...
how easy it is to confuse baseball fans...
Ryan Robbins...
|
Baseball fans are probably the most intelligent sports fans, considering
that few outsiders have any idea what the rules are. (For that matter, a lot
of baseball fans themselves don't understand a lot. But are these fans
"real"?)
Ron...
|
Lemme guess, you're a baseball fan.
Ryan Robbins...
|
And an umpire.
Ron...
|
Well what are you doing in here?
Shouldn't you be working the World Series?
|
|
|
Jason Maxwell...
|
From the perspective of an American sports fan (And the vast majority of
baseball fans, certainly MLB fans, are probably American) baseball isn't
even close to the top of the list, using your basis of judgment. Cricket?
Soccer? Team Cycling (Though that's more strategy than rules)?
bklyntv...
|
Do you really want to go there?

I give it 5 Stars. Another brilliant episode. I was right about the
'Others' having a submarine. This also explains that power cable that
Sayid found goes to the other island.

4.8
Fun, intense, with nice character developments and a few good laughs.
|
Lisa Coulter...
|
4.5 It's getting creepy... well, it always was but still.
Benry is one evil dude - him vs. Morden (B5) anyone? (or any other evil
critter you care to name - don't know BSG well enough to pick a person,
perhaps the traitor President)
Lizard...
|
This version of Baltar is more pitiable than evil. He's a pathetic,
self-destructive wreck. He's a lot closer to Gollum than to Saruman.
But that's another thread.

Some one else on this thread called it a quiet episode another called
it intense.
I weigh in on the intense side.
I like how the writers did not succumb to the

Jack-saves-one-of-the-enemy cliche.
We also learned that the Others have a sub. I guess we know how they

I got the distinct feeling that all of that "sub" stuff was just an act.

boarded the boat a couple of episodes back.
Ron...
|
A sub?
PuddinTame...
|
Yes.
That's what I said.
A sub.
As in submarine.
Growltiger...
|
It could have been a subway. :-)
|
Ron...
|
Well I didn't thing you were talking about Hurley's next meal. I didn't
hear it. This show is getting as bad as BSG when it comes to mumbling.
Ron...

Battlestar Galactica
Dano...

He probably thought you were talking about MSG...to put in Hurley's sub.

You know, I heard "they're *** from *** sub" just before they brought the girl that Sun
shot, but it didn't make sense, as they walked onto the boat from the dock, and presumably

|
You mean when the Others' little commando crew was stealing the
sailboat? I don't remember that we saw where they came from; just
that Sun, below-decks, suddenly realized that she had company.
Heck, the sub could have come up next to the dock -- I'm assuming
Lisa Coulter...
|
Again, quite possible. I don't know BSG well enough, unfortunately.
Perhaps Brother Cavil is more appropriate re Galactica and an evil
leader?
Of course, though Benry seems to be the leader of the Others in Lost,
we aren't sure yet that he is the one ultimiately in charge .
Lisa Coulter

it's pretty small and can operate in shallow water -- and deposited
the boarding party onto the dock, and they went from there to the
sailboat. Climbing onto the sailboat from a solid surface has to be
preferable, from a stealth perspective, to doing it from another
vessel that's also bobbing in the water.
Anim8rFSK...
|
If it's moving around boarding parties, it's not that small.
wdstarr...
|
Not a little two-man thing, obviously, but it could still be a
lot smaller than, say, a WWII U-boat or a contemporary U.S. Navy
Ryan Robbins...
|
I didn't say I was a major league umpire. Is a writer for a newspaper that
has a circulation under 100,000 any less of a writer than one who writes for
the New York Times?
I've never had the desire to umpire in pro ball anyway. Too much traveling.

hunter-killer.
Anim8rFSK...
|
Sure, but there aren't a whole lot of choices in that line. What I
think would be hysterical is if they used the tourist submarine Atlantis
(based in Hawai'i) on the show.
et472...
|
Why they have a submarine likely help defines the type.
Most people don't have a submarine, and those that have them
don't have them as a status symbol. So there is a reason that
these people have access to a submarine.
A tourist sub would actually make a lot of sense, because then it
would be a leftover from something else.
I might think one of those "subs" that aren't pressurized, would
be a more useful thing, but I don't recall the "others" being
wet when they came on board the yaught.
Anim8rFSK...
|
I agree they must have a dry sub. Atlantis still fits the bill,
although there must be something a bit smaller.

I wonder if there is a research facility underwater, like that is where the cable that
Sayid found and took off following to Roussoue. The sub could be a mini little thing that
takes the researchers to and from it.
|
|
sailed to the other island in the boat they stole.
wdstarr...
|
Well it's not like they were just going to abandon the sub just
because they had a spiffy new sailboat (with engine) now. And
given that they wanted to get Colleen to what passed for their
medical facilities as quickly as possible, they'd put her on
whichever craft could make the crossing more quickly. Apparently
that was the sub.
|
A sub could maybe work ... it may be on the other end of the big cable that Sayid found
and that led him to Roussoue.

3.75 stars, good solid episode with nice flashbacks but quite a slow
pace. And c'mon, two islands?

Overall I liked it.
But not a lot.

3 stars.
A little of Desmond's second-sight goes a long way. The 8-spot rabbit
seemed like overwrought symbolism to me. Not that I could tell you what
it meant, or, for that matter, that I cared. And Paulo, the new
castaway, is not one that invites care or concern.
The revelation at the end was satisfying if only because it expands the
immediate universe of mystery island. That and the dynamic tension
between Ben and James is fascinating. I am also interested to see how
Jack manages his relationship with the Others. I liked how he saw
through the X-Ray setup.
I felt Pickett's loss when Colleen died. Even Mr Friendly came across

as something more than a tool. Perhaps I misread him, but he seemed
genuinely solicitous when he told Kate to let him know if the new
clothes did not fit. I do not buy that the Others are truly good guys.
But, and speaking for myself, the sale is still in process.
I enjoyed the flashback this week. The continuity of the con was not as
crisp or as captivating as I would have liked it. And the anonymous
trust for his love child although sincere would not be a great mystery
to Cassidy. Yet we have more insight into the softer side of "Sawyer."
Speaking of cons, I did believe that a pace maker had been installed in
Locke's heart. It was fun watching James trying to manage his heart
rate as Kate disrobed. And Kate's rallying to his side when the big
hurt was being laid on him was well done.
|
bklyntv...
|
This was the weakest episode all season imo. The flashbacks told us
nothing we didn't already know. Yes we know Sawyer has a heart of gold
under all that nastiness. Of course I knew he'd been in the system.
GarondoMarondo...
|
We knew Sawyer possibly had a daughter and that he gave up all that
money?
