-Disappointing:
The Amazing Race 9 (CBS)

Ian J. Ball...
CBS ran a friggin' family show at *10pm*! What the @#$% did they expect?!

-Could Be Better/Could Be Worse:
Sons & Daughters (ABC)

-Yesterday's Losers:
Joey (NBC), According To Jim (ABC)

Marc's Notes: In series-premiere news, the results were mixed.
On the favorable side was CBS drama The Unit, which kicked off
with a solid (and second-place) 11.9/17 in the overnights, 18.19
million viewers and a 5.1/13 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. Comparably,
The Unit built from rock-solid lead-in NCIS (Overnights: #2, 11.7/17;
Viewers: #2, 17.28 million; A18-49: #2, 3.8/10 at 8 p.m.) by 2 percent
in the overnights, 910,000 viewers and a hefty 34 percent among
adults 18-49.

Over at ABC, back-to-back episodes of sitcom Sons & Daughters
debuted in the 9 p.m. hour (opposite the premiere of The Unit) as follows:

ABC/Tuesday
9:00 p.m. Sons & Daughters
Overnights: 6.2/ 9 (#3), Viewers: 8.35 million (#3), A18-49: 3.4/ 8 (#3)

9:30 p.m. Sons & Daughters
Overnights: 5.5/ 8 (#3), Viewers: 7.48 million (#3), A18-49: 3.0/ 7 (#3)

Optimistically, there are two things to point out here.

1) Sons & Daughters bested two episodes (original and repeat) of
NBC's competing Scrubs (which had no lead-in support from the
relocated Joey) by an average of 38 percent in the overnights,
2.17 million viewers and 14 percent among adults 18-49. Scrubs
averaged a 4.3/ 6 in the overnights, 5.74 million viewers and a
2.8/ 7 among adults 18-49 from 9-10 p.m.

2) The first episode of Sons & Daughters built from lead-in According
To Jim (Overnights: #3, 4.1/ 6; Viewers: #3, 5.88 million; A18-49: #3,
2.1/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.) by 51 percent in the overnights, 2.47 million viewers
and 62 percent among adults 18-49.

While that may sound impressive, what is concerning about Sons &
Daughters was a loss of a noticeable 11 percent in the overnights,
870,000 viewers and 12 percent among adults 18-49 in the second
half-hour. Many viewers, apparently, did not like what they saw.

8PM - FOX - "American Idol" - 17.7/26
(90 mins, 17.3/26)
CBS - "NCIS" - 11.7/17 (9.7/14)
ABC - "According To Jim" (new) - 4.1/6

("Deal or No Deal", 6.1/9)
WB - "Gilmore Girls" (repeat) - 2.5/4
(new, 3.2/5)

Rob Jensen...
What's amusing here is that Gilmore Girls basically got 80% of a new
episode of Joey's ratings -- but with a *repeat.* If Gg had been a
new episode this week, it would have beaten Joey.

FOX - "American Idol" - 17.7/26 (28.26 million)

Ian J. Ball...
Die.

FOX - "House" - 13.8/20 (20.64 million)

Ian J. Ball...
I guess my "In da House!" joke is getting old.

But I will say this - that was the first second season episode that
properly recaptured the "spirit" of season #1 "House".

More episodes like this, please!

CBS - "The Unit" (debut) - 11.9/17 (18.19 million)
CBS - "NCIS" - 11.7/17 (17.28 million)

Ian J. Ball...
CBS may have found two worthy successors to the "JAG" legacy.

Now, all they need is a show to go at 10pm. (Oh, and get rid of Lauren
Holly!!)

ABC - "Boston Legal" - 8.4/14 (11.34 million)
NBC - "Law & Order: SVU" (repeat) - 8.1/13 (10.24 million)
CBS - "The Amazing Race 9" - 6.5/10 (9.37 million)

Ian J. Ball...
BL airs against weak competition, and does nothing with it. This is not
good...

ABC - "Sons & Daughters" (debut) - 6.2/9 (8.35 million)
ABC - "Sons & Daughters" - 5.5/8 (7.48 million)

Ian J. Ball...
Mediocre. This show's not a long-termer.

NBC - "Scrubs" (2 eps, new/repeat) - 4.3/6 (5.74 million)
ABC - "According To Jim" (8:30-9PM) - 4.1/6 (5.99 million)
ABC - "According To Jim" (8-8:30PM) - 4.1/6 (5.88 million)
NBC - "Joey" (2 eps, new/repeat) - 2.9/5 (3.95 million)

Ian J. Ball...
That's it. The rest of "Joey's" episode won't even air. This will be
pulled before next week.

WB - "Gilmore Girls" (repeat) - 2.5/4 (2.90 million)

Ian J. Ball...
Logan vs. Jess - is there a *third* choice?!

UPN - "Everybody Hates Chris" (repeat) - 1.8/3 (1.94 million)
UPN - "America's Next Top Model" (repeat) - 1.7/2 (1.54 million)
UPN - "Girlfriends" (repeat) - 1.6/2 (1.68 million)
WB - "Supernatural" (repeat) - 1.2/2 (1.82 million)

Ian J. Ball...
The rerun ratings expose the 'sucky' nature of this show, I think - if
you're an 'episodic' series, and you don't repeat well, it's because
people really don't like your show...

Cheers,

TD (aka Rhonda)

Taylor...
Yay, JOEY'S finally toast this May. :-D And you people HAVE to expect
that while Scrubs was a well-done, quirky sitcom, it was always meant to
be non-mainstream having a small-but-loyal-audience and not meant to
last any day longer than 5 years so if it's in year 6... they got off
AWFULLY lucky!

Who da man? I da man. I always suspected.
Dr. Gregory House from "House"
