Hey, I'm having some frustration with groups, and I wonder if
any of you have some input.

That's because you're talking about groups, which is the one of
the worst newsreading systems around.
If you have access to a news feed, then it makes little sense to use
it. If you don't, then a low-cost alternative is news.individual.net.
You can use any newsreader with that.

I second the news.individual.net recommendation. It's an excellent
service, and it costs only €10
(~US$12.55/CA$14.30/£6.70/AU$16.65/NZ$18.95) per year.

After I read a thread, it still says, "31 new of 31 messages," even
when I've refreshed the page, or waited a few minutes, or even if I
click through the thread again. It eventually (maybe sporadically)
updates, so I don't think the problem is my browser settings. Does
this happen to anyone else? Is there anything I can do to fix it? I
checked web-search's help, but I didn't see anything. This is annoying
enough that I'm going to switch news readers if I can't fix it.
Thanks for any advice!

You need to subscribe to each group in order to see any change. It
doesn't work as well as a newsreader, but it doesn't work at all unless
you subscribe to the group.

Argh, I was hoping that was it, but I'm already subscribed to
rec.arts.tv. I'll subscribe to the others I visit, but I don't think
that fixes it. Thanks for the suggestion though!
