Does anyone get this channel through their cable provider or is it only
available with Satellite?

Comcast, analog tier, Twin Cities suburbs.

.
It depends. In Charlotte NC the travel channel was somewhere around
channel 50.
In Grand Rapids MI it is not there (it's extended service, channel
~150).
I enjoyed watching the Haunted Houses/Hotels series, but that was about
it. I don't miss it at all.

There's Samantha, going to hotels all over the place. Actually there's a
fair number of fun shows on Travel.

|
It's been on my cable systems forever, basic channels. I watch Tony
Boudain's new show on it.

That guy creeped me out when he had his Food Network show, he looks like
a mix between "Lurch" and someone in desperate need of a liver
transplant. Pass!

I find his attitude quite hilarious. He makes no bones about the
things he hates like much of what the Food Network airs. That's
probably the only time you will see someone come out and publicly
criticize what other chefs are doing on their networks/shows.

"No Reservations" is pretty much like "A Cook's Tour" except an hour
long. He is a touch creepy (although some of the ladies go gaga over
him), but in general I like his show.

You're in the Philadelphia/Comcast area, right? Maybe I'm confusing you
holefamily1...

The suburbs just outside the city, but yes, Comcast.

with someone else. Some Philadelphia Comcast areas have it, and some
don't. Mine (ex-"Garden State" or whatever) doesn't.

Yes, some parts of the area get different channels because they've been
Grandfathered in. In the last 10 or 15 years Comcast's grip became
completely dominant and the other company's like Oxford Valley, and
Suburban cable that used to offer a few different channels than Comcast
did and when Comcast took them over they kept a number of those channels
in the old area but you couldn't find them on the lineup in the city.
For years when I would go over my Dad's or my brother's houses they
wouldn't have channels like FX even though I didn't and I was only a few
miles away and we both had the same cable company. I still get IFC but
it can't be found on their tvs while at my Dad's house he picks up a
great PBS station from up in Easton, Pa. that I can't get here and
there's a boatload of college tv stations like Temple, Drexel etc.
|
I called recently and asked them to put me on the "people who want The
Travel Channel" list. They seemed to indicate that they would do so.
Maybe if you do the same thing, they'll add it eventually... Also, try
to sound *really* mad about it.

:~)
I did some searching in On Demand last night and apparently if you look
hard enough you can find a few of the Travel channel's shows in there
but the network itself still isn't on the dial. But I've got what feels
like a dozen home shopping channels! What ever in the world would I do
without them????

We get it with Adelphia Cable, not that I watch it much, just
an occasional show about mega yachts or something.

Same here, also on Adelphia in New England. We had it on basic cable
with Time-Warner in Cincinnati, too.
