I say it because I believe the fate of 7th Heaven and Runaway is already
decided.

Comedies, even mediocre ones, seems to have many more turns in TV
syndication than dramas, though.
telenovels...

Really? Where are the reruns of old UPN comedies?
Obveeus...
|
Girlfriends seems to be blanketing the airwaves in syndication.
Why are you trying to redirect the topic to *only* ULN comedies rather than
telenovels...
|
.
Because they are mediocre. Because the Comedies we are discussing are
from the old UPN. Because I want to prove my point: "CW is better-off
focusing on boosting drama ratings (like 7th heaven, smallville,
supernatural)."
|
all comedies vs. all dramas? Most hour long serial dramas don't play out
well in syndication because people don't have time daily to devote to them.
Comedies, on the other hand, can usually be watched in an out orf order
random fashion...maing them more ideal for syndication.

I wasn't trying to speak about theoretical profit 30 years from now. I was
speaking about current programming and trying to keep the network afloat
over the next 5 years.

|
Theoretical? Seventh Heaven and Smallville are already making
secondary profit on local-tv. That's not theory.

So.
7th Heaven lost 0.5% of its audience. That's not bad considering the
increased competition of Sundays.
Runaway also lost 0.5% of its audience.
If CW could get rid of that Runaway stinker, and replace it with a GOOD
drama like Everwood, they'd probably have a solid 2.5% for Sunday night.

Evergreen has been over since Ephraim and Amy first entertained the
thought of going to Podunk U.
Runaway may stink, but its smell is not that of a equine corpse.
telenovels...
|
I wouldn't care if Everwood spelled like a Horse patty dipped into
skunk urine. It would get better ratings than Runaway (3.0% last year
vs. 1.1% for runaway), and thereby draw more money into the CW's
treasury.

I'm not sure you're right. Nothing seems to be doing well on CW.
As for me, I'm watching Runaway. Nothing could get me to watch another
year of the Perils of Amy and Ephraim. Alright...a hand job from
Ephraim, maybe.

The fast national rating for 7th Heaven was 2.1 according to both
Zap2it and Futon Critic (previous airing had a 2.9 rating according
to Futon Critic). Much of the loss was probably due to the day
switch, which took place too late to get into many of the weekly
print guides.

|
Hmmm. Two weeks time is not enough notice for Print Guides to switch
7th Heaven from Monday to Sunday's schedule? (That's a genuine
question; I don't know how much lead the Printers require.)
Michael Ikeda...
|
It wasn't enough time for either the Washington Post's Weekly TV
listings (which is the ONLY printed source of Sunday TV listings in
the Post) or for TV Guide. I'd suspect that a lot of casual viewers

of 7th Heaven missed that episode simply because they didn't realize
the show had moved to Sunday.
|
2.9 to 2.1 = a big loss for 7th Heaven. It was CW's top drama. Now
it's down near the bottom with One Tree Hill, Veronica, and
Supernatural. Ouch.
