Instead of 3:00 PM. The NFL has a very hard time getting their games
over in a three
hour period. With the second game starting at 6 PM they could really
be squeezing it
by a few minutes either way. With time outs, coaches challenges of

calls and the possibility of overtime a 2:30 PM start would be better

Post season NFL games are scheduled for 3 hrs 30 mins.
This Sunday's games are on different networks so the first
game won't be "left before ending" for the second game.

Sunday 3:00pm eastern = Pitt at Denver
Sunday 6:30pm eastern = Carolina at Seattle
Plus I am pretty sure they hold the kickoff of the second game if the first
game happens to still be going on. Last Sunday the Carolina/Chicago game
started later than scheduled because the Pitt/Indy game ran long.

I read your complaint as 3 hours wasn't long enough
for a game. Won't scheduling a game for 3 1/2 hours
help that?
How did you cope with 3 hour game durations each Sunday
during the regular season?

It was 3:15 during the regular season.

Three hours 15 minutes may have been a typical game length,
but regular season NFL games are scheduled for 3 hours.
NFL games are scheduled on Sundays at 1PM and 4PM Eastern time.
A game starting at 4PM can preempt a game running long from 1PM.
This will always happen on stations in the TV market for either of the
teams.

The start time for the second was changed to 3:15 later for scheduled
second games (that is for a team that normally has 1pm Eastern/noon
Central start time) a a few years back. I'm a season ticket holder for
the Rams, so I'm quite familiar with the schedules.
The Rams normally kick off at noon, but had two scheduled late games
that started at 3:15pm.
You can check schedules on most teams' web sites. Here's a couple.
This apparently doesn't apply to west coast teams, their games seem to
start at 1:05pm.

4:05PM (1:05PM pacific) starts are late games on the network that does not
have the double header that week. Rams home game against the Redskins
this season on FOX was one of those as CBS had the double header that

Something like that. Basically, a home late game will start 3:15 later
than a home early game. In STL, that's noon or 3:15pm. This season, the
Rams/Eagles game late in the season was downgraded from 3:15 to noon
(both teams were sucking pretty bad).

But the Redskins/Rams game was 3:05 and not 3:15 because it was a single
header game. Every week there are games at 3:05 single header late games
and 3:15 double header late games.

Ok. The second game of a double-header is set for 3:15 later. So a
"split double-header", an early game on one channel and a late
single-header on another may have more overlap than two games on the
same channel.
