2 stars. DT is a whiner. It took me some time to get used to last one
and after a full season of DT I still can't stand him.

Forgot to mention that Tennant did a fantastic job as the Doctor.

I give it 4 stars (The Grinch)
-1.0 off because the Doctor was mean to
Harriet Jones, Prime Minister, and ought
to have been more understanding.
El Puerco...
|
That is the Doctor, though. He's the most judgmental being in the Universe!
I love it when he turns on people for seemingly minor infractions that, to
him, are monumental.

No second chances.
Six words.
"We will NOT be starting a war." Yeah, right.
Tim Bruening...

The aliens started the conflict by taking over 2 billion people
hostage!!!!!

And the aliens were fleeing.

Blowing up an alien ship that's no longer a threat strikes me as a
major infraction.

REmemeber Doctor Who and the Silurians?
Tim Bruening...
|
The Doctor did not blow up the Silurians. Lethbridge Stewart did.

And the PM didblow the ship up.

-0.5 off because I had to avoid _Battlestar_ ads at like
EVERY commercial break. I'm sick of those things.
It's looks like they're advertising a soap opera, and an
over-the-top, cliched one at that with bad music.
+0.5 awarded because I gotta love the "killer
Christmas tree". THAT was funny and scary
at the same time.
In general, the new Doctor got one of the coolest
entries I've ever seen when he stepped out of the
Tardis, and, again, while different from previous
Doctors was within the established character
parameters of THE Doctor.

4.2 I don't normally just echo someone, but you beat me to the rating I
wanted to give for pretty much the same reasons. I was reading a
particularly good book during the commercials, though, so I don't need
to deduct for that, and I loved the tea wake up 8-)

:D Loved this one. It's even better than I remembered it from when I
"STOLE IT FROM THE WEB!!!! OH NOES!!"
GOt to love tht Fighting' Hand :D
Also this one crushed any doubts I had about DT's casting as the Doctor. He

As good as Lindsay MacDonald's "evil hand".

is a superb Doc.

***** (5/5) I loved this one--just shows what you can do on
a shoestring and likely primitive CGI, costumes/sets, and
SFx, if you have imagination! I think I like the new Dr. Who
slightly over the old one too--he seems a little more
serious which is a needed plus I think. Great start for the
series/season! ...tonyC

3.5 from me. Tennant is off to a great start.
(Did anyone else here watch the very-mini-series "Secret Smile"
recently? Boy, he sure can do charming creepiness. Or creepy
charmingness, if you prefer. ;-))

Mike Allegretto...
|
I loved the nod to Hitchhiker's Guide "Arthur Dent! Lovely man!"
hehehe.
Patty Winter (patty1...
|
I didn't catch that one, but I've had the .sig file below in
my collection since that movie first aired.
Mike Allegretto...
|
He said it extremely fast but it was a hilarious line.
it think it went more like "Arthur dent?! Now there was a lovely
man!".
Patty Winter (patty1...
|
Okay, like I said, I only caught the one where the Doctor remarks
about defeating the Sycorax in his pyjamas. He ends that one by
saying "Very Arthur Dent!", which of course, is a cute reference
to Arthur traveling around the galaxy in his pyjamas and robe.
I liked it so much that I turned it into a sig file months ago
when I first heard it.

adams was a scriptwriter for 3 serials of tom baker doctor who.
also, the current show likes to add british pop culture references.

|
Brian Henderson...
|
It gets a solid 4, it was a good intro to the new Doctor, but since I
saw it almost a year ago when it first aired (and have already seen
the whole second season), I only watched about 10 minutes in the
middle of it, right up to the point where he comes out of the Tardis,
before going off to do other things.

Tim Bruening...

Which party does PM Harriet belong to?
Jerry Brown...
|
Marcovaldo...
|
3 at best.
The Doctor spends about 70% of the episode bed ridden, then recovers in time
to save the day by ....... besting a warrior alien in a sword fight. Sorry,
if I wanted an action hero, I'd watch James Bond. The Doctor is supposed to
be formidable for his intellectual, not physical, prowess. I also didn't
like making Harriet Jones into a villain after she had been portrayed so
positively in her previous appearance. And too much talk about "I don't know
Hunter Rose...
|
But Harriet Jones was listed in the history books as a
multiple-term prime minister who lead England into a golden age, so
perhaps she learned from the experience and came back better.
So it was all for the best!
Anim8rFSK...
|
Or maybe the guy that wrote the history books thought a world free of
hostile aliens WAS a golden age.
Hunter Rose...
|
One act is hardly enough to guarantee a "world free of hostile
aliens", so I think she's got more work to do to bring it about.
Not to mention the Doctor himself noted her multiple terms
(and the number, I can't remember if it was three or six).

who I am".
That said, there were some nice touches: the tea; the Chistmas tree; the
lethal musicians.

Come on!! This is not one of those crisis the Doctor Regenerated episodes.
Southpaw...

Sorry, I missed the early years of this group - was there ever a Yads
Translation Guide published?

|
Marcovaldo...
|
Oh, and that was *ash* falling down and blanketing the ground??? Well, then,
going out and playing in it is really a *bad* idea.
Marcovaldo...

I guess you're not familiar with Abbott and Costello.

John Duncan Yoyo...

Nope I missed it on three replays.

Who's Skellington?
Jack Bohn...
|
Mark Nobles...
|
That's why it's so effective. The question isn't disloyal. In fact, it
sounds like concern for her. But balance this with concern for the job
and whether she's healthy enough to do it, and it's time to call a vote
of confidence.
Tim Bruening...
|
I would expect that the security guy would ask Harriet if she's tired or
sick. If she answers no, why would he spread it further?
|
|
Jack Skellington, of "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
