A Growing Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC:
Based on ratings for the week of Oct. 2, ABC's Jimmy Kimmel Live
perked up to 1.95 million viewers -- its largest weekly audience (and
third highest ever) since the week of Feb. 17, 2003. Compared to the
same week last year (and without the benefit of a boost from Monday
Night Football), Kimmel was up by 490,000 viewers (1.46 to 1.95
million) and 17 percent among adults 18-49 (0.6/ 3 to 0.7/ 4). Kimmel
has now delivered more viewers than the year-ago week in 39 of the
last 40 weeks.
Late Night Scorecard:
While we are on the topic of late night, here is the season to-date
(Sept. 18 - Oct. 8, 2006) rating results for the daypart. NBC's The
Tonight Show With Jay Leno still rules the roost from 11:30 p.m.-12:30
a.m. despite ongoing audience erosion, while No. 2 The Late Show With
David Letterman on CBS is up year-to-year in four of the five surveyed
categories (excluding a 10 percent loss among adults 18-34). ABC's

This is one of those cases where more detailed ratings are needed. Maybe a
bunch of 34 year olds turned 35. ;-)
It might be a lack of 18 year olds joining the show while 34 yuear olds got
too old for the demo, which means ratings will continue to dwindle in

Nightline and the aforementioned Jimmy Kimmel Live round off the
block, while Late Night With Conan O'Brien has a healthy lead over
CBS' The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson at 12:30 a.m.
Here are the results (with percent change from the comparable year-ago
period in parentheses):

These late-night shows with Leno and Letterman do better than I would
have thought. 3-4% of the nation is not bad considering the late hour.

Both shows are cash cows. Broadcasting & Cable said that "Leno" makes
$280 million in advertising and Letterman $230 million.

Yeah, but "Tonight" is the bigger cash cow because not only does it generate
more revenue, it's also cheaper to produce since Leno gets a lower salary
than Letterman.

well considering that NBC's primetime lineup is in almost total collapse
(Letterman's people for years claimed that NBC's first-place primetime kept
Leno on top). It will be interesting to see if NBC is willing to replace him
with Conan if he's still beating Letterman by considerable margins in a
couple of years.
