I sorta like this show. It's hard to really say why, I don't like post
apocalypse stories, the science was at or below real world science
knowledge (by this I mean that the average person knows next to nothing
about science), and I'm not sure the writing is that good (the bad boy
comes home and saves the day). But for some reason that I can't really

Who said he's bad? He and his father had a falling out and he's

we know.

define I'm still planning to watch.

GarondoMarondo...
I'm going to give this one a 3.2. I think one think really hurting this
show is the horrid musical score, faux rock scores never work on tv and
shouldn't be attempted. Also, filming in California will hurt the
show's look in the long run.

Garondo Marondo!

But he's lying repeatedly, unabashedly, brazenly. He doesn't just have one
lie, but multiple ones, obviously never intending on sticking around to have
to explain the inconsistancies.

Michael Bowker...
His Dad will not give him access to his inherited money, he's lying
about where he's been and what he's been doing, and he needs the
previously mentioned money. Sounds like he's a in trouble to me. YMMV. :)

MYSTERY CHARACTER!

Bob (but not THAT Bob)...
Well maybe he did, but I doubt he needs it now.

Ok, that's a good point. :) But how bad off do you have to be before a

Brian Henderson...
You're making a lot of assumptions. His dad is a control freak and
only wants to give up the money if he approves of it's use. He's not
telling anyone where he's been but there's no implication of whether
he's been in trouble, maybe he's just unable to tell anyone.

Michael Bowker...
Actually your the one making assumptions. :) We have no reason to
believe his dad doesn't have valid reasons. We know that their

jayembee...
Perhaps, but one could argue that his not laying out those valid
reasons is as "suspicious" as Jake being evasive about his whereabouts.

Sure, if the *characters* know what's what, there's no need to
rehash it amongst themselves, but this is a drama, not real life.

Michael Bowker...
Exactly, and the storytellers are holding back information to reveal at
a later time, to create suspense (or as Anim says Mystery MAN).

relationship is strained. We also know that the Grandfather put the dad
in control of the money, thus implying that the son couldn't be trusted
(at least with the money). One doesn't usually put someone else in
charge of an adults inheritance without good reason. But like I said YMMV.

jayembee...
You're making the assumption that Jake was an adult when the terms
of the inheritance were laid out. Granted, such things usually
include a "until they reach majority" clause in them, but then
one would have to assume that the grandfather had a competent
lawyer.

Michael Bowker...
Not really an assumption, it's a deduction. He's been gone five years,
he's thirty-two years old; ergo he was an adult when it happened. The
gravestone of the grandfather still looked new, so we can deduce that he
died in the last five years. As to the competent lawyer, ya that's and
assumption. But if the ex mayor of the town (who's son is the current
mayor) can't get competent legal documents drawn up, well then no-one
can. :) But like I said, YMMV. Things we know. Mother believes the
reason for the money need is valid, son doesn't want to tell dad what it
is. Mother does say, any one can get into trouble (or words to that
effect). So we know the son is hiding information from the father and
the towns people (lying).

Wierd thing, the gravestone didn't have dates on it.

Ken from Chicago...
No, no, no. The REAL problem is Jake telling conflicting lies. Sure, they
were to signal the audience that something was up, but he could have told
lies that were reconcilable with each other.

But he didn't.

Moreover if he was in special ops or some kind of spy (for the US or a
foreign government), you'd think he'd already have a SINGLE cover story
worked out in advance.

Or it could just be sloppy writing.
No radiation escaped. Nobody died. If you're gonna have a nuclear
accident, that's the kind to have...

Good points: Well-paced, gripping, chilling conclusion.
Bad points: the dumb "fallout smooching" scene; extremely grim tone may
turn off viewers in the future unless leavened by more comic relief.
