"The Empty Child"
5-5-06 Dr. Who
5 stars (12-25)

4.0. Next week's will be my first 5.0 of the series. *
whodunit...
|
Then everybody...oops, almost let the cat out of the bag! ;-)
Totally agree!
doctor...
|
Have you seen The Doctor Dances?
whodunit...
|
Yes, it was 'fantastic'! :-)
doctor...
|
Hence the 5.0 . I resered my rating until asked.

|
5 for me. Great ep, can't wait to see next week and I'm reasonably
ambivalent about "Dr. Who" as a general rule...
|
whodunit...
|
This and it's second part are two of my favorite
episodes from last season...lots of humor, suspense,
and of course, CAPTAIN JACK!! Woohooo!
ANIM8Rfsk...
|
Is Captain Jack somebody we should be familiar with, or is this his forest
appearance?
Tim Bruening...
|
I did not see him among any trees.
|
Michael Bowker...
|
No, Captain Jack is a new character/companion (never seen previous to
this episode). Although the actor has the lead? in the Torchwood sequel
(which I assume is going to be the Captain Jack character).
ANIM8Rfsk...
|
Thanks; I guess I'd just seen enough mentions here that he ran a bell.
|
|
David Loewe, Jr....
|
Captain Jack will get you high tonight
And take you to your special island...
|
|
Definitely a winner, I give both episodes a 10 because I know
how it ends! :-)

Get ready for Torchwood the series.
whodunit...
|
I've been ready since they announced it last year!!
From the rumors I'm hearing though, the Doctor won't
really have anything to do with the new show, although
already this season there's been several clues pointing
AT Torchwood, so we'll see.
doctor...
|
Well, it is CBC co-produced!

doctor...

Captain JAck is permanent until PArting of the Ways.

4.0 nice creepy episode.
doctor...
|
A bit harsh. What did you not like?
Tim Bruening...
|
The Doctor not knowing what year it was!
doctor...
|
David B...
|
I thought that Captain Jack was a bit annoying.
Michael Bowker...
|
What's wrong with a 4 out of 5?
I think I forgot to vote, before now.
So 4.0, I really liked the Doctor complaining to the cat about Rose
wandering off. Good solid Doctor Who.
Tim Bruening...
|
I suggest that the Doctor plant Radio Frequency ID beacons in his
companions!
|
|
doctor...
|
Compared to Mickey?
David B...
|
No one is annoying as mickey.
doctor...
|
What about Adric?
doctor...
|
You never saw any DW from Full Circle ot Earthshock?
David B...
|
I don't know. I haven't seen Doctor Who for so long I can't remember
what I watched.
doctor...
|
REmember a small mop-topped boy with a golden star?
David B...
|
No but I think I'm happy about that.

Ian Salsbury...

Am I the only one who has no problem with Mickey?
solar penguin...
|
I _did_ have a problem with the series-one Mickey. I've said it before,
but he reminded me of the old Willie Best-style racial stereotype that
should've disappeared 60 years ago.
OTOH Mickey's working much better as a believable character this series,
so I haven't got a problem with him any more.
|
Diane L...
|
I like Mickey. I think he's a very believable character, fairly ordinary
at the start but a nice guy and later developing into something of a
hero. I'm glad he's part of the Tardis team now.

whodunit...
|
Nope, I kinda like the Mickster too! :-)
doctor...
|
Captain Infinity...
|
I don't. I've paid so little attention to Mickey that I can barely
remember who he is.

Captain Infinity

|
My opinion of him went down rather in Boom Town, where he came across
as whiny and petty ("Rose, it's only the end of the world. Please spend
some time with me instead of running off to help save it"), but I never
had a problem with him in earlier episodes - he was potentially quite
interesting in the Slitheen two-parter (and I didn't have a particular
problem with that either).
doctor...
|
Boom Town vis a vis Mickey was just misscripted.

Ian Salsbury...

I wouldn`t call 4 out of 5 "a bit harsh". 5/5 would be perfection after all!

Jaime M. de Castellvi...

4.5
I enjoyed the turkey.
doctor...
|
The meal?
David Loewe, Jr....

I thought it was a pork roast...

I sense such innocence behind that question, my child...

Middlebrow...

I should have known. They always told me that Narn tastes like
chicken.
doctor...

Anyone for Barcelona trout?
|
Tim Bruening...
|
Who has been eating Babylon 5 characters?
|
|
doctor...
|
It was turkey.
Middlebrow...
|
Turkey has bones.
doctor...
|
So does most everything.
William George Ferguson...

In that case, I don't want any of your pudding, thank you very much (or
bangers and mash, either)

I prefer my meats deboned.

Actually I quite liked this episode. The suspense is great. I wish the
SciFi channel would show both parts together next week...sadly we know that
Tim Bruening...
|
I just saw the episode, and it did have a trailer for part 2.
Captain Infinity...
|
Friday night's showing did not. The re-run on Sunday night did. And
yes, before the credits. *During* the credits, actually. I wish Sci-Fi
would stop interrupting the credits, mainly because I really enjoy the
theme music and would like to hear it whole.

Captain Infinity

won't happen.
Koenig...
|
Why sadly? The cliffhanger to the first part is great - shame to ruin it by
running them back to back.
|
tedkord...
|
This is one of the best episodes of last season. The conclusion is also
great - you won't be disappointed.
|
I am going to reserve my rating, however, until after the sendond part.
What is it with those ratngs anyways? It is just because I am some dumb
blonde girl that I am confused?
|
powrwrap...
|
3.8, though that might be adjusted depending on how the story is
resolved next week.
The balloon scene was silly and contrived and badly done. Figure out a
better way to get Rose on Captain Jack's ship and I'd probably give
this one a 4.2. This is probably the best representation of the Doctor

You've got to be kidding me.

so far in this season. Compassionate, witty, smart.
Tim Bruening...

What are all those balloons supposed to do? (I'm not up on World War 2

Their cables were supposed to ensnare the propellers of low-flying

tactics).
|
doctor...
|
You did not like the balloon scene?? Oh my!
|
|
Tim Bruening...
|
4 stars. Minus 1 star for the Doctor not knowing what year it was!
Why didn't the Doctor know that he had landed in 1941 London? Doesn't
his TARDIS have a time indicator?
|
Sean Huxter...
|
Can I ask what this is supposed to mean? What's 5 stars (12-25)? And what's
0-1 stars (6-6)?
Is this a code of some kind?
