She just said, 'Walter Cronkite has been a doll.........."
Alas, the CBS news tradition's downward spiral continues apace.
Preening Cutesification has won the day.

She did mention that she believed that serious news and a good sense of
humor don't have to be mutually exclusive. That's who she is. I
personally don't think she's the right fit for CBS Nightly News either.
It's just another part of dumbing down America.

I have studied broadcasting, Laura, take it from me, Katie Couric is
doing fine.

Well, pardon moi. I had no idea I was dealing with an expert here.
Everyone has their opinion, and in yours she's doing fine. In mine,
she's not.

That`s allright Laura, you deserve the right to be wrong.

How gentlemanly of you. And just to let you know, allright is two
words: all right.
All right? All righty-then...

Anybody notice that she changed her signoff?
Old: I hope to see you tomorrow.
New: I will see you tomorrow.

One way round the whole thing *might* be to have 30 minutes of news,
from 6:30 to 7:00pm. Not only at CBs but ABC and NBC as well. I'd
watch it, any of them. Instead, I have no choice, if I want the news
after 6:45 (which I do) then the only place I can find it is ta da on
the Fox News Channel (fortunately, I have a thing for Shepherd Smith,
so it's not as bad as it could be) :)

Fortunately, we get the BBC World News. Thirty minutes 7 to 7:30 PM. No
commercials. Stuff you just never see on domestic news. Occasionally, a
bit too much about things you never see on domestic. Rather more than you
ever wanted to know about something esoteric, like Andean lamas. But also
the rest of the text around the sound bite you were fed on ABC, CBS or NBC
not to mention CNN and its ilk.
