CW skeds 2 rookies; CBS stable
The CW network will look like the sum of its parts when the new
network -- a successor of the soon-to-be-defunct UPN and WB Network --
launches in the fall with a mix of returning UPN and WB series and
only two new offerings: drama "Runaway" and "Girlfriends" spinoff "The
Game." Meanwhile, following the extreme schedule makeovers by NBC and
ABC, CBS is expected to be an oasis of calm. The eye network is
expected to make only a few changes in its new fall lineup, to be
unveiled today at Carnegie Hall, including a switch to series
programming on Sundays instead of the movie slot it has had for 20
years. There was buzz late Tuesday that CBS would move "Without a
Trace" off Thursday to Sunday, probably at 10 p.m. CW's pickups, in
addition to "Runaway" and "The Game," include a new drama from
"Dawson's Creek" creator Kevin Williamson. The soap "Palm Springs" was
given a midseason order Tuesday. (Nellie Andreeva)

I see big-time problems with nearly all of these choices.
Renewing OTH over "Everwood" is asinine.
Taking "All of Us" over "Half and Half" is another mistake.
I just don't see "Runaway" appealing to The CW's target audience.
And I think "Palm Springs" is a potential disaster waiting to happen.
Ian (It's just a good thing that there are so many WBN carryovers that
are worth something, or The CW would be really hurting next Fall. As it
is, they may very well be hurting come Fall 2007...)

There are pieces obviously missing here. The number of half hour shows
have to be even unless the net is going to have a 90 minute show (maybe a
movie slot on Sunday?).
Even if the CW did that (three sitcoms and a 90 minute movie slot on
Sunday) there are still hours weekday hours to program.

They may just use what DaytimeWB was going to do--rerun "ER" and "Reba"
