Will you be watching MyNetwork?

videonovels...
I will be; probably taping it while watching the UPN/WB aka CW live.

Steven L....
I cannot.
AFAIK, MyNetwork hasn't signed up any affiliate station here in the
Boston area where I live. It's the largest market for which they still
don't have an affiliate.

I like the idea of a 13-week long "novel for tv". My only concern is:

Zombie Elvis...
They're just prime time soap operas. If you like soaps, you'll love
MyNetworkTV. If not, you'll hate it.

Well (1) soaps don't have fixed endings. They just go on forever, so
that's one major difference. And (2) A Tale of Two Cities, David
Copperfield, and my other Dickens stories were originally "soap operas"
(serialized in the daily newspaper). Sometimes these things can be
good if there's a good writer behind the story.

I watched the previews:
- Fashion House = dull/aimed at women
- Desire = possibly interesting; about two men running away from the
Mafia. I'll probably watch that one since it airs at 8 p.m. when I'm
still awake (or tape it for weekend review).

.

What I'd like to see is an adaptation of an already-existing novel.
Like the Godfather. Or David Copperfield. Or Gone with the Wind. Or
Tale of Two Cities. Et cetera. I think any of those would make great
13-week-long "novels for tv".

Will it be any good? I don't like the idea of wasting 40+ hours
watching a "telenovela" only to discover it's trash.

VINCE...
NO WAY!

Why not? I can understand you objection to Godfather or GOTW, since
they are already masterpieces, but why do object to adapting Dickens'
novels or Bronte' novels or other novels to the 13-week-long serial
format?

PPPG...
Actually I think it's a great idea as summer "filler" - from Dean Koontz's
Watchers to any of the Jonathan Kellerman Alex Deleware novels, maybe a
Michael Chrichton, Tom Clancy, Greg Iles, etc. MHO, the trick would be
finding a book that appeals to a wide demographic. I'd stay away from the
heavy drama's though, but then again my taste is probably coloring that
point.

Zombie Elvis...
Any Spanish speaker knows that if you've seen one "telenovela," you've
seen them all. From the promos I've seen, I don't expect MNTV to stray
very far from the telenovela/soap opera formula.

Maybe I'll just watch the Saturday-night "summary" of the previous
week.

Zombie Elvis...
I'm not a soap opera fan, so I won't bother.
