With Jay Mohr no longer associated with NBC's "Last Comic Standing,"
the network has tapped another comedian to host the next edition of the
show.
Anthony Clark, who stars on CBS' "Yes, Dear" and has appeared on "Last
Comic" in the past, will take over hosting duties when the show returns
in the summer.
"Anthony is a very funny comedian whose engaging wit and personality
have made him a favorite with audiences," says Craig Plestis, head of
alternative programming at NBC. "We're delighted to have him host the
show."
Mohr and NBC had a falling-out in 2004 over "Last Comic Standing 3,"
which was rushed onto the fall schedule after "LCS 2" drew decent
ratings that summer. The show, an all-star edition pitting comics from
each of the first two seasons against one another, performed poorly in
the Nielsens, and NBC pulled it one week before the finale was to air
(it eventually ran on Comedy Central).
Clark has starred on "Yes, Dear" for six seasons, though the show's
future is somewhat in doubt. It's been MIA since mid-February, and CBS
is reworking its Wednesday comedy block later this month, replacing it
and "Still Standing" with first-year shows "Out of Practice" and
"Courting Alex."
He also starred on the NBC series "Boston Common" and ABC's short-lived
"Soul Man." He also served as a judge for the early rounds of "Last
Comic Standing 2."
