from Marc Berman at mediaweek
Monday 1/01/07
The following results are based on the fast national ratings (Live
Plus Same Day data)
-Total Viewers:
Fox: 12.18 million, CBS: 10.12, ABC: 9.20, NBC: 5.11, CW: 2.40

Wow...ABC sure does suck compared to NBC. ;-)

Proof that sports fans do not care about the quality of the game, only the
logos on the helmets.

Michigan and USC are name teams but the Rose Bowl event itself draws
the numbers. The Rose Bowl usually tops the other college bowls,
excepting only the title game.

I guess that means I might actually be watching some TV tonight.

He's actually lying. Both CBS and the CW are in repeats for their
entire schedules on Tuesday (That's a full 40% of the schedule right
there). And Boston Legal is a repeat on ABC. I suppose that if you
count the Orange Bowl as original programming rather than pre-emption
of Fox's entire lineup for the night, then at best Tuesday night is a
little less than 60 percent original (ie: new) episodes. Exclude the
Orange Bowl (and I do) and it's a little less than 40 percent new
episodes.
Apparently, Berman not only hasn't the slightest clue how to interpret
statistics, he also failed at more basic math skills such as
determining percentages.

He means tomorrow (Wednesday). The ratings are for Monday, the column
was published today (Tuesday) and the comment about tomorrow's line-up
is for Wednesday. Whether or not 88% of Wednesday's line-up is
originals is left to you to figure out.

Um...Rob...Tuesday doesn't qualify as 'tomorrow night'. He is talking about
Wednesday since Wednesday is tomorrow.
From the Zap2it listings for *tonight*, the only thing worth watching is the
premeire of 'Dirt' on FX, just to see if it will be any good.

Wednesday: Sugar Bowl on Fox, so there goes 20% off the top. CBS is
2.5 hrs of repeats (only King of Queens at 8pm is new), so there goes
another 16.7 %. Beauty & the Geek's 2-hour premiere I put in the same
category of waste-of-time as the Sugar Bowl, but I'll let it slide. So
that's 63% new scripted programming max across the five networks --
and that's only if one counts B&tG. If he's counting MyNetwork, which
isn't a network, then he's padding his numbers.

So, by your own numbers: 63% + the 20% you don't feel like counting even
technically would count as 'new', means 83% new programming. Hence, Berman
was correct. Yoyu should at least acknowledge that you had your foot in
your mouth because you didn't know what day 'tomorrow' was.
