In the Friends episode "The One Where Rachel Is Late", Rachel, who is 8
days overdue for giving birth, and Ross visit Rachel's gynecologist. At
one point during the exam the gynecologist tells Rachel, "You're about
80% effaced, so it shouldn't be long now."
What does this mean?
I did a web-search definition search on "efface" and got this:
None of these seem to apply. Does anyone know what the doctor meant?

It's really not gross at all. Most times a woman doesn't even know she
IS effaced. Only a doctor or medical professional can tell.
