With the recent post of Heist being given the boot ( rightly so though
the pscho slutty babe cop was tres interesting ) it sure seems to me
that an inordinate number of shows this 05/06 season have failed
miserably ( Teachers and Pepper Dennis to follow no doubt ). One reason

There's no mystery there. Why would they start a show at this time of
the year unless they regarded it as a total forlorn hope to be used as
filler when they run out of reality shows?

Jack Bauer's Spunky Sidekick, Ian J. Ball...
Not true - the examples of mid-season shows that went on to become hits
are legion.

Mid-Season shows are usually a curious mix of shows the nets hope will
'hit' at mid-season (I'm not sure we have one of those this year), shows
that have had production delays that push them back to mid-season (e.g.
"The Unit", and (I think) "...Old Christine"), and 'burn-off' shows that
the nets know are duds, and so hold until mid-season as 'filler' (I'd
put stuff like "The Bedford Diaries", "Teachers" and "Sons & Daughters"
in this group).

David...
They're trying to compete with cable so they're debuting new shows
throughtout the year. This also gives them a better chance to promote

rgorman...
Yeah. Suuuure. They still put the shows they actually consider to be
good prospects on in the fall. The increase in shows debuting
elsewhen comes from the forlorn hopes

these shows. I don't find that they're any better or worse than what
premiered in the Fall.

obviously is that I can not remember what I had for breakfast so
preceding years could very well have been just as decimating. However
if I were to hazard a guess this season appears to be particularly
brutal which is fine by me nevertheless at several million bucks a pop
you would think that the Nets might be a bit more discriminating.
Programming heads should roll. Maybe they hope to make it up on DVD
sales : )

David...
Something like 82% of all new shows don't make it past the first
season so this year probably isn't any different (and with CBS bucking
the trend with most of their new shows, odds say that the other
networks will suffer.)
