You don't want to wait until the last minute to start Christmas-themed
commercials...

Oh come on. We've been seeing "holiday" ads since Labor day.
(Why did it stop being "Christmas" and start being "holiday"? It's
not like the Christmas season is a religious holiday any more.)

When people celebrating Chanukkah and Kwanzaa complained that they felt
left out.

Good thinking? Apparently so; the American buying public responds well.
When they stop responding, the advertising will stop.

Actually, Christmas sales have been going down every year, so maybe
the push to start earlier is so they can push their sales numbers up.
A longer shopping season means more sales, not less.

They haven't even celebrated holloween and thanksgiving yet and the
stores since the end of sept having been stocking toys galore and xmas
decorations. What next...easter?

Easter isn't that big a gift giving occasion, so there's no reason
to start that until closer to the date.

But it's never too early to start decorating your house with plastic

I used to work in a department store. Believe me, Easter has already
been ordered.

Eventually Christmas will swallow up everything else. It'll be

When I was a kid, the Christmas season unofficially started the monday after
Thanksgiving weekend. The stores used that long weekend to change their
windows and displays.
Now, the "post Christmas" sales seem to start about then.
Looks like the new Christmas season actually starts when the time changes
from DST to EST.
Lets put the X back in Xmas.
