I remember that, when they shot "Friends" series finale, they ALSO shot much
of the reunion show at the same time. It is because "Friends" is the most
popular sitcom ever, it is no brainer that there will be a reunion show. The
question is only when.

But shortly after the finale, it was revealed that they didn't shoot any
extra footage. I can't recall what happened, but it was either a hoax
that travelled well or they actually had wanted to do it but couldn't
negotiate it with those concerned.

How can you shoot a reunion show, when they have not split-up yet?
That would be akin to high school students celebrating the
10-year-reunion on Graduation day. Makes no sense.

It would depend.

If it was based on the actors talking about the series, and where they are
"now", no that wouldn't work.

But before that sort of thing came to tv, we'd see things like made for
tv movies about Gilligan's Island, which in effect were a "reunion" show.
Or when the Brady Bunch got back together for a holiday movie. Or when
Rockford had a few tv movies a decade or so ago. The characters get
reunited, and we either get to see more of them, or even get to see
them when time has passed from the original series.

IN that light, of course they could have "filmed a reunion show". Since
the show was fiction, all they had to do was get the writers to cook up
some scenario for them to all get together ten years in the future, and
figure out how they've changed, and then have makeup make them look ten
years older.

The advantage is of course if they reuse the sets, the sets are there.
Ten years down the road, they aren't likely to still be around, so they'll
have to be rebuilt or use something else. They also have the actors in
one place; ten years down the road it may be difficult (or perhaps not)
to find a time when it can be filmed and they are available at the same
time.

Also there was no money on the budget for such filming.
