Okay, so I'm watching thefirst of today's Pokemon episodes. Ash came
home. Misty, Tracey, May, and Max are also there.

They refer to the region as Kanto (pronounced "CAN'T-oh").

Why are they contradicting their own previous name of Indigo?

The Eternal Lost Lurker...
They're not. If you bothered paying attention to the games, the original
land from the very first game has been referred to as "Kanto Region" ever
since the second iteration of the franchise.

spiritofsupergirl...
I'm not talking about the games. I'm talking about the English-dubbed
anime. The region was originally referred to as the Indigo Plateau.

The Eternal Lost Lurker...
Err...Indigo Plateau is the name of *one specific part* of Kanto region.

Always has been.

sanjian...
So an anime company is removing a dub edit, and were complaining about it?
I would think that's a step in the right direction.

Galen Musbach...
Because a different company is doing the dubbing now?

AstroNerdBoy...
Well, Kanto is the correct name of where they lived IIRC. Too bad the
dubbers didn't revert back to the right and proper Japanese names. :-P

spiritofsupergirl...
Well, that would have made the dub inconsistent with itself.

Of course, it kind of is now, too, but we could say that the government
renamed the region from Indigo to Kanto.

spiritofsupergirl...
Really? Who?

And when did they take over?

The Eternal Lost Lurker...
They haven't yet, IIRC. I don't think the final batch of 4Kids-dubbed
episodes is actually finished yet.

However, the control rights to the Pokemon anime reverted back to The
Pokemon Company at the beginning of this year.

Adrian Tymes...
It was the Indigo League, and there was an Indigo Plateau within the
land, but they never really named the land itself until Ash & co. left.
Thus, *for as long as the land has had a name* it's been Kanto. And
they seem like they're avoiding talking about the local league, which
allows them to avoid mentioning the word "Indigo" while staying
consistent.

Although, it would seem likely that Ash would want to return to
Indigo Plateau at some point, if the competitions there are held every
few years. His badges seem to still be valid, if his Viridian Gym badge
remains good despite not only the passage of time but the thorough
discrediting of its previous leader, and Ash has been on the road for
years now - as he himself said in Johto, before even getting to Hoenn.

spiritofsupergirl...
Huh??? Ash acknowledges years passing?!

If so, then why do the characters not age?

William Rendfeld...
Because it'd be irritating from a merchandizing perspective, obviously.

Though Ash does look a bit taller now than he did at the start of the
series.
