up.

Helmer Robert Luketic is rounding up his cast for the updated take on
the classic '80s series: He's offered his "Monster-in-Law" star
Jennifer Lopez the part of Sue Ellen Ewing, Luke Wilson is negotiating
to play Bobby Ewing, John Travolta has an offer to star as J.R. Ewing
and Shirley MacLaine is down for the part of Miss Ellie Ewing.

Jude Cormier...
I really have a hard time seeing John Travolta as J.R. and Shirley MacLaine
as Miss Ellie.
Especially the latter, who has already mucked up one classic TV character on
the big screen.

While no deals are yet in place for these thesps - Wilson is in
negotiations - most of the pacts are likely to happen. And if that
package does come to fruition, production is likely to commence in
October after Travolta has finished up a starring role in New Line
Cinema's bigscreen version of Broadway hit "Hairspray."

Securing someone for the part of J.R. was the first order of business
in ironing out the cast. Other names that were in the mix for that
role included Mel Gibson and Kevin Costner (Daily Variety, Sept. 28).

Pic has attracted a bevy of other big names.

Robert Harling and Sacha Gervasi wrote drafts of the script. The
infamous sudser chronicled the exploits of wealthy Texas oil
millionaires and their shady business dealings and dysfunctional
families. The series centered on the Ewing family, led by patriarch
Jack Ewing, who started family corporation Ewing Oil.

If a deal can be made for Lopez, "Dallas" would bring her back to
studio fare after lensing back-to-back independent films. She recently
wrapped Hector Lavoe biopic "El Cantante," in which she plays Puchi to
husband Marc Anthony's Lavoe. She also has the Gregory Nava-directed
indie "Bordertown" in the can. She is attached to star in "The
Governess" for Sony and producer Sid Ganis.

Wilson recently starred in Fox 2000's "The Family Stone" and next
appears in the Fox pic "Idiocracy" and Fox/Regency's "Super Ex" with
Uma Thurman.

Travolta recently finished up "Lonely Hearts" alongside James
Gandolfini and Salma Hayek. MacLaine last starred opposite Jennifer
Aniston in "Rumor Has It" for Warner Bros.

As if we didn't know this was going to suck big ones, they had to
include J-Lo. They're not going to even TRY to make a decent film, huh?
