I think in my case it was either the quiz show "Down You Go" or "The
Kate Smith Show".

The oldest specific show I remember was an episode of Leave it to
Beaver that aired a couple of months short of my third birthday (though
I might have seen the repeat the following summer). Beaver was fooling
around with his father's car and backed it out into the street,
blocking traffic. Wally, who didn't have a license yet, drove it back
into the garage, and of course caught the attention of a cop. The cop
asked the boys their names and Beaver gave his name as Theodore (his
real name). I reemmber saying to my cousin, who was baby-sitting,
"That's sneaky, he's lying about his name"
Okay, you know, I was three.
I was also at least five years old by the time I finally got the whole
Clark Kent/Superman thing, convinced up until then that my mother was
just joking about that.

Hmm, I can't recall, but the first Saturday morning line up I remeber
was "Hair Bear Bunch", followed by the original "Superfriends" and
some sort of "ABC Staturday Morning Movie".
As for primetime, I am not sure because I wasn't old enough to stay
up that late.

Well, yeah. I was about three years old at the time. I think the first
run of Scoobie Doo was in that lineup too, now that I think about it.

"I Married Joan," 1952-55. I can still sing most of the theme song today.

That was one of my first favorite shows. I used to watch it every day
between reading the paper and eating dinner when I was a kid. I've
always wished it would come back. I guess there are no existing tapes.

I don't know about "tapes," but if you have a DVD player, then here you go:

I don't buy TV shows, generally, but if they're not available

Well, I know there are a number of really old shows that I've seen
since I've become an adult that were made before I was born. Probably
the first show I can actually remember seeing on TV was "Star Trek",
but I think that may have been in re-runs since it seems like I saw it
in the afternoon.

That's one of the problems with trying to remember the earliest show. So
many have been repeated since their initial airing that it's hard to recall
exactly when the show was seen. I can recall a couple that I saw when I was
young, including the first season of Sesame Street with a strange looking
Big Bird.
