Hey, what took you guys so long to get off your fat asses and drop the
UPN brand? I thought it was CALIFORNIA that had the laid back attitude.
KCOP-TV13 dropped the "UPN13" within hours of the news. :-p
WFTC-TV29 Minneapolis/St. Paul is no longer "UPN29". Nope, now it's 29
WFTC. As of almost 7PM (ET), KUTP-TV45 Phoenix is STILL "UPN45".
WRBW-TV65 is STILL "UPN65".

Well, since there are no CBS or Tribune owned stations in the market, the
CW affiliation in Phoenix is up for graps, so KUTP isn't our of the
running, unless CBS/Warner is unofficially deep-sixing all Fox-owned
stations (KUTP is part of the Chris-Craft group).
IF the CW is not considering any Fox owned stations (which, of course,
they can't officially acknowledge), then the other two likely choices are
both owned by the same company, KASW-61, the current WB affiliate, and
KTVK-3, the independent, and current market leader over-all in the
Nielsens. If I were the CW, I'd want to get KTVK because, well, it's the
strongest commercially, and it has the best over the air signal in the
market. The low VHF channel won't matter in five years if the digital
conversion isn't extended, but that's still five years away.

Interesting. I didn't know there even was an indy station in Phoenix. I
think you're right about the Fox-owned UPN probably being out of the
running. And since WB and independent are both owned by the same
company, go w/ the strongest one and if you say it's channel 3 (KTVK),
then that's the one to go w/. The company already knows how to program
an independent, so it's a matter of switching out the programming on the
two channels.

I believe the station bugs during programming and the live reads were
changed the day after the changeover but some of the Web sites and
prerecorded commercials are taking longer to be altered.

Worthless trivia: WFTC used to be a FOX affiliate, hence the call
letters WFTC (W Fox Twin Cities) and KMSP (K Minneapolis/St. Pail) FOX
9) used to be independent. Then UPN came along and KMSP became a UPN
affiliate. In the early decade, UPN and Fox traded affiliates, but
WFTC kept the Fox call letters.

That's interesting, actually. Stuff I look up on the Wikipedia like the
history of KCAL-TV9 Los Angeles.
