Why don't they make a star wars tv series?

They did. The *original* Battlestar Galactica (1977) was a ripoff of
Star Wars. And it flopped after one season--its ratings weren't all
that bad, but its production costs were too high to sustain those
mediocre ratings.

I think it would be great and there would be a lot of fresh ground to
cover with regards to story material. I like how Star Wars details
human & alien lives from a personal, down-to-earth level, rather than
the detatched military/governmental level of Star Trek.
