I finally got around to watching this pilot. This is another one that would
a been a decent basis for a 2-hour movie. It plods along and I don't
particularly care for any of the characters. I don't see how they will ever
keep an audience interested over the long run no matter how many incompetent
FBI guys they throw in and how many mysterious and evil conspiratists show
up. It's up against CSI:NY and The Nine. I'll take The Nine based on the
pilots over this. Maybe the Lost people will switch over to this one and
forsake The Nine. I still believe the networks are making a big mistake with
all these serialized new shows. This show might have worked just as well as
a kidnapping show of the week with a rebel ex-FBI agent matching wits
against his ex-brethren to find the 'nappers.

I definitely agree that the show doesn't seem good for a long run as a
series. It really doesn't develop enough complexity to suggest there's
a good story for a series. I think you are also right about The Nine
looking a much more interesting series than Kidnapped. It's kind of
sad since Dana Delaney and timothy Hutton deserve better than the
short run this is likely to get. Although it seemed well enough
written that it might survive a full season.

I like Dana Delaney, so it was a real treat seeing her again. The
pilot advance at a fair pace, so there's bound to be a lot more than
just the typical kidnapping. The trouble is, it depends on how
successful the "a lot more than" part will be. If it goes somewhere
intriguing, it has a good chance of surviving. Who knows, it might
turn out to be a Vanished-wannabe?
