Ugly Betty - was tonights episode an unaired early episode?

Was this episode suppose to have been the second episode of the series?
It seemed to have taken place right after episode one.

I don't watch the series, but epguides.com/uglybetty does show this as
being the 4th episode made (and 11th aired), so it does appear to have
been held back.

It clearly was held back, but the show covered themselves by having
that opening scene where Betty talks about her new job one floor below
and voice overs of Betty saying 'this was when....'. So it basically
was a flashback episode. Though I doubt if it was intended as one from
the start. Why it was never aired before this, who knows?

Kind of like the old Star Trek in which the original unaired pilot got
some additional scenes and then used --sort of -- as a flashback
episode.

I hope they know what they're doing switching Betty's job so soon in
the series.

Also didn't she meet for the first time the accountant after the events
of this episode? The episode seemed to have contradicted that earlier
episode.

Also the HMO problems with the father seemed to have made no sense. He
was cut off after the HMO cut him off because of a phony SSN yet in this
episode he was cut off earlier.

Do we in fact have two contradictions to later episode - the accountant
and the HMO problem?

It doesn't really contradict anything because what we saw were flashbacks.
Betty was telling Christine how she "lost" the Gucci bag. She had to go way
back in her time at Mode to tell the story in context.

I think the scenes were probably filmed earlier and they used the flashback
technique to use them now.
