IMHO Stargate Atlantis is like SG1's early years (better)

They're not wiped out. The System Lords have collapsed. One is a
species the other is a government. Goa'uld still exist. They just
have lost control of their slaves (mostly because the Jaffa won't follow
their orders anymore).
Too bad they threw away that premise. When they started visting the
same dozen worlds (Ga'ould world, Jaffa world, Earth backup-base world,
etcetera) over and over and over..... the show lost its "what if"

It is, it was beamed up from the SGC. Thus it being the Giza one. We
didn't find it but the Russians did. Go Russians. :-)

whodunit...
When you say "Thor's ship", are you referring to the Goa'uld mothership
that Thor's consciousness was downloaded into? (I know that's bad
grammar, sue me! :-)

IIRC, the replicators had appeared a few seasons before. Season 4 maybe?

EvilBill...
That's the one he means - the Giza gate dropped into the ocean when
Thor's ship was destroyed in 'Nemesis' (3x22) and rediscovered in
'Watergate' (4x07). Thor's consciousness aboard Anubis' mothership
wasn't until "Descent" (6x03).

That would be the Antarctic one, only it's not there anymore, it was
destroyed by Anubis. That's why we are renting the gate from the Russians,
only one gate left on Earth now.

BTW, *are* we still renting it, or was there a new deal made regarding that?
Not sure on that one.

That's probably true. I bet they still collect the monies though! :-)

Are you saying he is good for something??

Eva...
Oh, bring Jack into it to distract me, why don't you?

Eva...
:)))))))

I am watching NASA TV. Also very distracting. :-)

Eva...
They're replaying the news conference regarding the New Horizons (Pluto)
mission. New Horizons is approaching Jupiter (plus it's been a year since
the launch) so NASA is marking the occasions with an update of the mission.

Jack never pretended to be doing anything worthwhile in that position, while
Landry is supposed to be respectable and responsible and the rest.

You said it, not me, Miss Shallow. (It's not like saving the Earth a few

I think they renegotiated and the SGC owns the gate outright
in exchange for turning over the next 303 (or is it 304 now?) cruiser
they constructed to the Russians. We've seen that ship in action (and
destroyed by the Ori if I recall).

EvilBill...
Yup, the Korolev. It's a 304; the Prometheus was the only 303.

Eva...
I thought I vaguely remembered something like that but negotiations bore me
so I don't usually pay much attention. I guess I should!

Highlandish...
the Russians still very much play a part, only now as part of a
complaint, they get a starship of their very own to play with.

premise. It stopped exploring.

IMHO stargate's best shows had nothing to do with Ga'ould.

That's why I was happy when Stargate Atlantis premiered. While SG1 was
telling yet another boring Ga'ould story, Stargate Atlantis was
offering us fresh exploration of brand-new cultures. SGA returned to
the original premise of SG1's early years.

Atlas Bugged...
Yeah, very well put, exactly.

Most second acts suck, but Atlantis beats SG-1 for exactly the reason you
say - the concept itself was solid, and they abandoned it.

There's obviously also the fact that a decade of experience doing this
franchise undoubtedly has some very well-oiled people at work.

But on shows that are a decade old, the problem is finding fresh stories.
Too bad SG-1 stopped looking for them once they established the silly and
cheesy Go'aould.

SGA surely has its off-nights, but what a breath of fresh air it's been.

EvilBill...
It's a possibility. Unless the Ancients rebuilt something of their
empire when they returned here, before realising that as many of them
were Ascending, they were too few to successfully take on the
up-and-coming Goa'uld and left that job to the Asgard.
