The CW Signs Four More
By Allison Romano
The CW signed up four more local stations Thursday to long-term
affiliation agreements.
The new affiliates, three WB outlets and one UPN, are: WHCP
Charleston-Huntington, W.Va., owned by Commonwealth Broadcasting; WPXT
Portland, Me., a Pegasus Broadcast Television station; KPXJ
Shreveport, La., a Minden Television station; and WBRL Baton Rouge,
La., owned by Communications Corp of America.
The deals represent 1.4% of the country and bring The CW’s total
distribution to more 57% of the country.
WHCP is currently a WB affiliate and carries UPN programming out of
pattern. KPXJ is a UPN station, while WPXT and WBRL are both WB
outlets.

My Network TV Signs Six Affils
By Allison Romano
Fox’s My Network TV snared six more affiliates Thursday to push its
distribution to 45% of the country.
Meredith Broadcasting is committing two of its stations, WB affiliate
KSMO Kansas City, Mo., and KPDX Portland, Ore., to the network. Also,
St. Louis UPN affiliate WRBU, owned by Roberts Broadcasting, will
become a My TV station, as will QueenB Television’s WKBT LaCrosse-Eau
Claire, Wis.; Venture Technologies Group's WNYA Albany, N.Y.; and
Television Wisconsin's WISC Madison, Wis.

This is misleading... the La Crosse and Madison stations are both CBS
affiliates that intend to run My Network on a digital sub-channel.
|
“Meredith Broadcasting’s successful track record of operating winning
stations is a tremendous advantage for My Network TV’s affiliates in
Portland and Kansas City,” Fox Television Stations CEO Jack Abernethy
said in a statement.
So far, My Network TV has affiliations in place for 38 markets,
including 18 of the top 30 markets. Last week, Sinclair Broadcasting
cut a deal for 17 of its stations to carry the mini-network.
Additionally, nine Fox-owned UPN affiliates and its lone independent
will be My TV outlets when the service launches Sept. 5, the same day
as rival startup The CW.

ACME To Carry CW

Seems like any company named ACME should be affiliated with anything
having to do with the Looney Toons at Warner. ;)

I'd like to think that you knew that ACME Communications was co-founded in
1997 by The WB head honcho, Jamie Kellner and the name, with its Looney
Tunes/WB connection, was purely intentional, but I fear that would be giving
you too much credit.

They don't even air on Boomerang anymore either!

ACME Communications signed on Thursday to carry The CW network on
seven of its TV stations. The stations represent 3% of the country and
bring The CW’s total distribution to 60% of the country.
With the deal, ACME becomes the third-largest CW affiliate group,
behind Tribune’s 16 CW outlets and CBS’ 11 owned-and-operated
stations. The ACME stations involved in the deal are: KWBQ
Albuquerque, N.M.; WBXX Knoxville, Tenn.; WBDT Dayton, Ohio; WTVK Ft
Myers-Naples, Fla; WIWB Green Bay, Wis.; WBIU
Champaign-Springfield-Decatur, Ill.; and WBUW Madison, Wis. All seven
stations are currently WB outlets. (ACME also owns a UPN affiliate in
Albuquerque.)

*lets out an excruciatingly gigantic echo of relief that Dayton, Ohio
now has a My Network TV affiliate deal signed in ink!!!!* :-p
Taylor (whos shouldn't throw stones seeing he still gets 3 Erie, PA
affiliates via cable)

“Affiliating our television stations with The CW is an outstanding
business opportunity because it immediately enhances the value of our
television assets,” ACME President Doug Gealy said in a statement.
Two of ACME’s stations, WBXX and WBDT, are among the top WB
affiliates, tying for No.2 in 18-49 ratings in last November’s
sweeps.
