They couldn't get $50M a year from syndication (that's why Andromeda had to
partner with SciFi to do its last season, because syndication money wasn't
enough by itself). In today's market, a syndicated serial drama, even with
original episodes, won't get more than $500K per episode, or about $11M a
year if they do 22 episodes. (it's only the L&O and CSI syndicated repeats
that are getting $2M per ep in syndication).

That '$50M a year' is last decade's model (actually, you'd have to go back
about 15 years for that, to the heyday of Xena, Hercules, and DS9).
NEW YORK (AP) - The Sci Fi Channel has pulled the plug on Stargate SG-1,
but there still might be life ahead for the long-running series.

MGM, which produces the show, is hoping to dock it on another channel.

I think the reporter is mis-interpreting. MGM said, ""This is not the
end of the Stargate franchise," which is not the same thing as saying

Barnabas Collins...
Translation: Stargate will get something new after the new Angel
movies are made, afte r a new Buffy movie, and after a new
Spike movie.

As far as Stargate: stick a fork in it....it's done.

Atlantis is hanging on by a finger nail.

SG1 will continue. The Next Generation was cancelled but the Star Trek
franchise still continued onward. Likewise SG1 is canceled, but
Stargate will continue onward... perhaps as a movie, or a third series.

.

And don't forget, they plan to continue Atlantis for at least a 4th
year.

That said, what are the possibilities? Could SG1 continue as a
syndicated show on local tv stations (as did DS9/B5/Andromeda)? MGM
already has contracts with local stations to air 1-year-delayed
episodes.... it would be fairly easy to modify those contracts to show
season 11 brand-new episodes.

mike3...
I don't know, and am not sure. They might, but then again maybe not.
Like you said, MGM wants to continue the _franchise_. I don't know if
they want to continue _SG-1_.
