Deal or No Deal - what's wrong with scantilty-clad models?

Why do people keep complaining about it?

Steven L....
I don't recall anybody complaining about the women on DoND.

I do recall lots of people complaining about how vacuous and insipid the
DoND *game* is, especially as a spectator sport.

Larry Bud...
What fat slob is complaining? I would hardly say they are
"scantily-clad" either. They're wearing gown, for chrissake, not
lingerie.... wait, that's a great idea!

Do they think the human body is horrible? I certainly don't. Get over
your parental brain-washing... and think for yourself.

There's nothing wrong with a beautiful woman.

cloud dreamer...
Then why aren't there any handsome men on the show wearing nice tight
speedos???

Larry Bud...
Because nobody wants to see that. To quote Elaine "The female body is
a work of art. The male body is utilitarian... like a jeep!"

cloud dreamer...
Speak for yourself...I might actually watch the show if they stuck a
young Sean Connery at the mic in speedos...and make sure the angle of
the camera picks it all up...every curve and bump....

Alex W...
This analogy is flawed. The DOND models are wearing dresses, not bikinis.

telenovels...
A good analog would have the women wearing dresses, and the men wearing
tight pants & muscle shirts / tanktops to display their firm butts and
hard musclar arms.

I'd be okay with that.

Sounds like a good plan to attract the female viewers. Which goes back
to my point: Contrary to the current Politically-correct merntal
disorder, there's nothing wrong with a beautiful woman (or man)
displayed on tv.

cloud dreamer...
Oh fer god's sake...

Obveeus...
Ok, how about: This analogy is flawed. DoND does not have any handsome
men.

cloud dreamer...
Then all the women should be middle aged and wear a fashionable suit
like the men wear.

Watch what happens to the ratings then...

Obveeus...
Does anyone have a ratings breakdown by gender for DoND? I'm guessing that
the show's 'appeal' is in the game, not in the suitcase openers. Of course,

Steven L....
On the official NBC "Deal or No Deal" website, the models take up most
of the space on the home page, with the game relegated to secondary
status. The website looks more like a website for MTV or a dating service:

It could be if the suitcases were rigged to explode when selected - or
have gobs of Nickelodeon slime pour down on the model if the
contestant says, 'No Deal'.
Or see any thread re:"Most Extreme Elimination Challenge" for various
other methods of having the DoND models navigate their way to the
suitcases.

I could be wrong because I fully admit to not understanding the big appeal

Alex W...
I don't know.

But can't the same criticism be lobbied at The Price Is Right? I imagine
the largest demographic of that show is women.

cloud dreamer...
TPIR varies the tasks that the contestants do. They have to win a bid
just to get on the stage and then complete some task. I haven't watched
it in decades, but to me, it's far more interesting than just picking a

Alex W...
I agree. But it has female models that seem to do nothing but open/close
stuff. So, any criticism about scantily clad models on DOND could be just
as easily applied to TPIR. Or Wheel of Fortune for that matter.

cloud dreamer...
One or two models compared to a dozen or more, standing there on
display. Hardly a comparison. And isn't Vanna still on WoF? Heck, she
must be in her 40s by now.

suitcase.

of the game.

cloud dreamer...
That would be interesting, but there must be some appeal to the show. I
know my mother loves it...but for the life of me, I can't see why.

Shevek...
The Spanish version of DoND seems a lot more interesting than the
American one. Here, in Spain, the boxes (not suitcases, just carton
boxes) are not held by girls, scantily clad or otherwise, but by other
contestants. Every day, there are 22 people with their corresponding
boxes. One of them is picked at random and he/she is the contestant. The
other 21 stay for the next program (with a replacement for the
contestant gone). You spent weeks seeing the same people day after day,
waiting to be picked (one woman stayed for six months before she finally
contended). A large part of the program rests on the dialogues between
the one that is at the table and the other 21 people (as they have known
each other for several days), asking for advice, and commenting what can
be in their respective boxes, making faces according to the cont when is
opened, etc.

ANd that makes the contestants work in order to get on the show. "If
you don't have the stamina to wait until it's your turn, then you don't
deserve a chance to win the money".

It helps that there is a selection process and all the contestants seem
to be high when in the show. :-)

Obveeus...
So, you concluded that she must watch it for the scantily clad women? ;-)

Obveeus...
If your goal in being entertained is to look at beautiful women, watching
DoND to fill that need pretty much sums up that you have a very poor
understanding of what the entertainment industry has to offer in the way of
'beautiful women'.
