This morning the anchors reported about some skiier who took a fall and
bruised her hip... and then went on to tell you "without giving too
much away, she finished in the top ten"-- refusing to say who won the
women's downhill.

What is going on? This is supposed to be a NEWS CHANNEL, for crying
out loud.

neillmassello...
Sports isn't news, it's entertainment.

Why are U.S. news outlets buying into this news blackout? Isn't it
enough that NBC is doing it?

Don Del Grande...
They do it out of fear that somebody who wants to watch the events on
TV that night will turn on CNN, hear the result, blame CNN for ruining
the Olympics for them, and start watching Fox News or MSNBC from now
on. Considering that Fox News seems to be the most-watched news
channel in the USA now, CNN probably feels it cannot afford to lose
more viewers.

NBC is sending me e-mails telling me the winners of things hours before
I get a chance to watch.

What good could this possibly do?

Karl Boder...
It can open your eyes.
Wirte to your american NBC Broadcaster that you want live olympics and not
taped-commercial-olympics....
Every Naton on the world makes a live event. Amercians tape for commercial
primetime "presentations".....

Thank god I have RAI and eurosport.com-- and can get results as they
happen.

Taylor...
Well...... while I couldn't care less about the Olympics, I guess it's a
global event so news organizations around the world will cover results
and channels in those countries that have the rights will do a lot more
than the others (like, whatever British broadcaster has the Olympic
rights in the UK). You'll find coverage on BBC World and EuroNews.

neillmassello...
If all you want is the results, you can get those faster on the
Internet. You don't need television.
