Without the digital sub-channels (such as 10.2 or 10.3) (usually owned
by the CBS station), the new CW Network only has:
83% ANALOG coverage.

Except that ALL the shows are down ~20%.

If you look at tvguide.com, and select 'broadcast/antenna', they give a
complete list of all the channels and sub-channels. ----- In my area,
you just type in "3.2" and there it is... the CW affiliate received
over the antenna. (3.1 is CBS, 3.3 is weather radar.)
I don't know how cable works.
Personally I'm staying with my old 480i analog set, until 2009, and
then I'll get the digital tuners that the U.S. Congress is offering for
$25 off.

(For contrast, WB had 91% analog coverage.) That could be one reason
shows like Gilmore Girls are being watched by ~20% fewer households
(versus October 2005). Many people, like me, can't access the digital
sub-stations.
:-)
ASIDE - MyNetwork would experience a similar problem, since it's analog

Grand Rapids...big market...
You claim that the CW only has 83% coverage without counting digital
subchannels, but that doesn't make it a fact. I would need to see some

I provided my sources in my original post. If you want to
double-check, go calculate your own statistic. CW has the list of

affiliates associated with its network. This link
has. It should be very, very simple for you to add the numbers.
When you're done, you should come up with approximately 83.1% Analog
Coverage just like I did.

The thing is, while you are certainly a genius, I find it odd that you were
the only one that figured out how low the coverage really is. The
mainstream media is talking about a ratings loss for CW shows without being
able to figure out the relationship to a loss of potential viewers. Why
hasn't anyone but you figured out the full scope of this problem? Where is
the giant outcry from people demanding that their cable companies pick up a
CW affiliate? Where is the outcry from CW execs that they need better
stations before their ratings should be compared to WB?

- In 5% of the nation, there's no CW channel.

Kind like with WB and UPN before...
|
- In 12% of the nation, the CW channel is only available on a
sub-channel such as 15.2. Which means only digital-tv owners can

So, none of these people can possibly get the station? ...or are you

- In many markets, the cable company does not carry the new CW... which

limits access to only those people with antennas (the exact percentage
is unknown).

...ah...so that is where the 'calculation' takes on a path of 'prove what
you want it to pprove'?
|
Bottom Line:
The CW network experienced a drop from 91% analog coverage (WB) to only
83% analog coverage. Simply put, many many people (like me) can't
watch CW even if they wanted to.

I don't know why you Obveeus are so angry about this stat. I'm just
sharing the information that is in front of me.

Angry? No. I just don't know that your 'stat' is independently verifiable
without making the same assumptions/estimates that you make.

coverage is only ~70%. SOURCE - I used CW's list of affiliates +
Nielsen's list of DMAs and calculated the 83% value.
QUESTION: Anybody know how many americans have Digital Tuners? What
percent?

I have an HDTV, haven't gotten an HDTV tuner from Comcast yet. I
can't say i'm impressed enough with HDTV to bother getting an
HD box from Comcast.
So right now i can access no HD channels, no HD subchannels.
As far as My Network TV, there is nothing on it worth watching.
Absolutely nothing.

Looks like quite a few judging by the people I know. TV's above 30" have
the ATSC tuners built in. Lot's of people have DLP'S, LCD's and Plasmas
with tuners. I have a 32" LCD and a seperate tuner. Tuners aren't easy to
find in stores around here though.
