How do you pronounce her last name?
Mark Nobles...
|
She pronounces it "pan-a-tea-air-ee" with the major emphasis on the
first syllable and a minor emphasis on the fourth syllable. The second
syllable should really be a schwa, but I don't have that character on
my keyboard.
|
Bob (but not THAT Bob)...
|
"Pantied-derriere" is how I like to.
Cipher...
|
That paints a pretty picture.

At least people can pronounce (and usually spell) Hayden Panettiere's
surname. Which is more than can be said for Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje...
David B...
|
That's why so many people refer to him as Triple A.
|
It's the Principle!...
|
That's actually Adewale Rotimi O. C. E. Akinnuoye Agbaje

My guess.... Pan-eh-tea-air
FDR...
|
That's how I've seen it pronounced on tv.

OK, this thread contains all three possible pronunciations
as the answer to the OP's question. So we're no further
along.
SoHillsGuy...

Geez, if only the internet has some huge video database where you could
get the answer straight from the source...
Captain Infinity...

She's saying it wrong.
daveparks...
|
... and actually admits to it in the YouTube clip - that her 'Mom'
purposefully mispronounces it "...because 'she' thinks it sounds better
like that." - making it sound French actually; "Pa-neh-tee-air." When
it's actually Italian, and is correctly pronounced, "Pan-eh-teh-ray" w/
telenovels...
|
.
Well... isn't French just an offshoot of Old Italian? I wonder how a
400 a.d. roman would pronounce it?
So, what does the name mean?
daveparks...
|
No idea - just addressing the pronunciation, or her Mom's purposed
mis-pronunciation, of the kid's last name.
|
|
the accent on the third syll.
The show host pronounces it correctly during the intro., "Like a true
Italian." as Heyden explains.

That also shoots down the 'Pantied Derriere' pronunciation, also. "My bum
has never been on camera." (answering whether she had done a diaper
commercial back in her early career (when she was 11 months old).

Yep. And they actually asked Eliza is she wanted to be in it, even after
getting a resounding "Hell no" when they offered her "Bring It On 2".
(That and the fact that she's 25 now and doesn't really look like a high
school girl anymore.)
Captain Infinity...
|
Or even then.
William George Ferguson...
|
Of course, 'then' she was of high school age, even if she didn't look it.
She was still 17 when she shot the 'up with people before' scene with
Xander (Nicholas Brendon) in The Zeppo. (She was legally emancipated, with
her parents' blessings, to increase her availability as an actress)

Tell me you don't do this at parties.
wdstarr...
|
You just made that up, right? :-)
Incidentally, if this is the same Micky DuPree that I vaguely knew
back at MIT in the mid-to-late-1970s she sure wasn't male then.
wdstarr...
|
I don't think so, but maybe. It was a long time ago. (Where the
heck would I have come up with a ticket to a Harlan Ellison _roast_?)

Signed,

I've noted that of people in general; I've never noted it being true
more of men or women.
Of course, I've never noted the 'men refuse to ask for directions'
business in real life either.

|
this is the one you're looking for
FTR, I only have the first one and that's more for Dunst & Dushku, and
for San Diego State filling in as a fictional school long before
Veronica Mars made the college . . . still obscure . . . than anything
else.
