Anim8rFSK...
My DVR (Cox) was set to record NEW episodes of Dresden Files -- problem
is, apparently none of them are flagged as 'new' so they weren't going
to get recorded at all.

Had to change it to 'record all' not 'record new'

Highlandish...
is the show any good?

Jason Maxwell...

Jason Maxwell...
It's Cox, that's all you really have to say.

Though Cox here is 100% better than Comcast was in the Pacific NW.

Ken from Chicago...
Come on, how bad could Comcast in the Pacific POSSIBLY be?

Ravenlynne...
I've never had a problem with Cox here in VA. I feel lucky.

Anim8rFSK...
Their service supervisors assure me that the low quality of service here
is not representative of Cox nationally. This is hardly a source of
comfort. :-)

Ravenlynne...
LOL...I'd be like "gee thanks...fix it then."

Anim8rFSK...
Yeah, well, I can't really afford unlimited $50 service calls where they
don't DO anything.

Ravenlynne...
They charge you to come out and "fix" something that it is their
responsibility to maintain?

Anim8rFSK...
yes

and didn't fix it

apparently if they HAD fixed it, they wouldn't have charged me

Ravenlynne...
It's a racket.

Paul Arthur...
Which, in an odd twisted sort of way, actually makes sense. See, if
they had fixed it, it would have been because it was broken and
therefore would have been covered under the warranty. Since they didn't

Anim8rFSK...
Absolutely. They also got us to sign up for the $4 a month 'wire
maintenance' plan by telling me that it covered modem failure.

Guess what? They lied.

Ravenlynne...
OMG! Do you have another cable choice in your area or is Cox it?

Anim8rFSK...
The real problem is the internet. We get both from Cox.

We don't have another viable internet option.

OT...We stayed at my MIL's house over the weekend in atlanta while we
were taking care of business before we move next week and she's got
charter with TiVo. I must say that I find Tivo EXTREMELY annoying. The
beeping stuff is irritating, as is the fact that it seemed like if you
are recording something, you're stuck with that...you can't watch
something else while you record. I don't know if it was just that we
couldn't figure out how to make it work or that that is how it works but
it sucked to have to spend the afternoon watching MIL's soaps instead of
something else. I love my Cox Cable DVR...I can't even tell you how
upset I am that I have to get rid of it.

Michael Bowker...
I'm not a TIVO person (I built my own PVR). But my understanding (from
Tivo friends) was that you can watch what your recording, or the other
tuner (if it's free), or something previously recorded while your
recording. SO either my friends lied, the tivo was mis-configured, or
you couldn't figure out the interface.

Ravenlynne...
Probably the latter. I don't care though. I'll never purposely get tivo
because I can't live with the bloop bloop sound every time I press a
button on the remote.

Michael Bowker...
Yep this "feature" was one of the major reasons that I was never tempted
to get a TIVO. But it's reportedly one of the things that people like
about the tivo. Go figure.

Ravenlynne...
No accounting for taste I suppose.

Victor Velazquez...
That sound is both annoying and highly configurable (high, med, low, *off*).
Guess which I have my TiVo set to? :-)

Anim8rFSK...
Do you have the regular or the HD? I assume they're the same except for
recording time.

fix it, obviously it wasn't broken and they need to charge you for
wasting an hour of their time trying to fix it.

Anim8rFSK...
LOL

except for the whole "they did prove to their satisfaction that it was
broken while they were here" part.

Michael Bowker...
Who can? Even one $50 service call where they don't do anything is way
too much.

Anim8rFSK...
Yep. If there was a viable alternative I'd take it, but there's not.

Ken from Chicago...
They didn't just replace it?

Ravenlynne...
That's what I want to know. We've had problems occasionally with both
the cable and the internet and they've just fixed it. No charges, no
questions asked.

Anim8rFSK...
That's not Cox's new policy.

Ravenlynne...
Yuck. Glad I'm moving.
I've got mine set for new episodes and its still set to record. Different
guide in Scottsdale maybe?

Anim8rFSK...
Or the complete and total incompetence of Cox Cable in action. :)

Anim8rFSK...
Actually . . . this is in Phoenix. Weird.

Ken from Chicago...
Maybe it's the Scientific Atlanta DVR is funny.

Tho the Motorola DCT 6412 only has "record this program" option for the
pilot but no "record this series" option. Maybe the pilot's special.

At least BSG had both options.
