Seems it's more common for young teen girls to become singing stars
than boys. Is it "just because" for the same reason that there are
numerous big-name female models and basically 0 males, or do their
vocal chops just become presentable at a younger age?

Guys generally go through a voice change during puberty, remember Peter in
that Brady Bunch episode.

Same reason why more boys can hit a curve ball than girls.

You seem to be saying that these singing stars have vocal chops.
Assumes facts not in evidence.

Martina McBride, Faith Hill, Shania, Jennifer Nettles, Leann Rimes,
Jamie O'Neal, Reba McIntire, Dolly Parton, Kellie Coffey, Gretchen
Wilson, Alison Krauss, Wynona, Emmylou Harris, Terri Clark to name a
few that most definitely have true vocal ability.

Most of these pop singers sound TERRIBLE in the real world. It's only
through the magic of sound processing, heavy editing, and several
hundred takes that an engineer makes their voices sound beautiful.
When you listen to a song, you are not hearing just one song. They
take a word or phrase from version #1, another word/phrase from version
#2, then 3, 4, 5, et cetera..... and paste them all together to get the
final cut. You are hearing 100+ versions spliced together, so the
sound engineer can hide the singer's vocal flaws.

Recording 101, though the way you've worded it seems a bit dated. In the
digital realm there are countless possibilities.

Please enlighten me. I've seen editing sessions, but that was back in
the days of splicing individual words together. What can be done with
digital / computer editing?

If someone has pipes, they're going to do performances that emhpasize this.

Tons, but you're barking up the wrong tree for enlightenment from dim

Essentially, the game is unchanged from your days, except that the
"razor blades" are a lot sharper and you don't have to get it right the
first time. (There still more than a little art to doing a first class

composite track.) The newer and cleaner pitch correction software has
reduced the amount of work for engineers in Nashville, however.

When it's a real singer, the recording engineer needs to be adept at
capturing it.

Sounding terrible is also why Jessica Simpson (and many performers) use
a TAPE during their so-called "live" concerts. You think Milli Vanilli
is the only group to do lip-syncing? Hardly. Almost all of them do
it, because if you heard their REAL voices in a live performance, they
would sound horrible.

I thought you were talking about manufactured teen age girls like the
Disney Channel turns out.

Not familiar with exactly who those would be not having the Disney channel,
but I hit a couple of different, though related topics. Young girl pop stars
vs male, and male/female pop stars in general.
I just know I hear far more young girl (various teen) solo singers than
young boy solo singers. I don't recall hearing even one teen male on AGT.
It was all 11 - 14 yo girls. While the pop girls I'm ref'ing to might not
all be the greatest thing since swb, many of the ones I've heard sound
decent enough, some are truly phenomenal - the barely teen Leann Rimes comes
to mind. (then again, there's Britney Spears - the biggest teener star with
the leastest voice) and I really like Jessica Simpson's vocal abilities,
even if not all the material she does is stellar. Yeah, yeah, she's easy on
the eyes but I really do think she has a good voice.
I believe Mickey provided a fairly plausible, comprehensive explanation.
Btw, what's the deal with Britney Spears? The one brief clip I saw of her as
a little kid on Star Search she sounded like she had promise but fell off
the track somewhere. Today, she sounds like she *should* have a good voice,
there's a basic timbre there, but she's developed this weird, groaning,
unsupported method of vocalizing and the couple of times I've heard her do
something live/exposed, she obviously had a hard time finding/holding the
pitch. Wahappen? Assuming she and those around here aren't deaf, she must be
aware of it. You would think she'd have access to first-rate voice coaches.

Any dissenters are directed to the 2nd floor, room 16. That's where
they have the continuing education seminar "Ass/Elbow differentiation".

It seems overall, "star" chops are more common a/or expected with

Funny how you still keep ducking the questions. If you want to validate
yourself as anything other than an adolescent wannabe, answer the
following two questions:
1) Supply the family tree for the C-12 (i.e., predecessor and successor
designs).
2) Define "gain stage" (relative to our present discussions), then
explain how you do it.
Alternatively, you could post your C.V.
Failure to successfully comply confirms that you are nothing but a
wannbe hoax. This isn't difficult, and seeing as you typically respond
to my posts in an hour or two, I give you till 6:00p.m. PST.

females than males. In country music, it seems all the girls have big,
soaring voices while the males are, with a few exceptions, more of a
personality than really strong singers - i.e. Garth Brooks, Alan
Jackson, Toby Keith, George Straight, Dwight Yoakum (sp?), Hank Jr.
etc. Yes, I realize there are some who can really sing - Clint Black,
Brooks & Dunn etc. but it seems they're much less common.

Of course none of the men you mention were stars at a young age. As you
know, a man's voice develops far later than a woman's. The males I can
think about who became singing stars at a young age would be Michael Jackson
or..... yes, I think that is it. Any other names I would need to go back to
the 50s. When I think about the female young singing stars, they do seem to
come along with their own baggage as they get older.

You really need to break up Brooks and Dunn in that statement. Brooks
can't sing.
