What's with all this non-stop coverage on TV about this weak tropical
storm approaching Florida? The way it's being reported on CNN, you'd
think another Katrina were about to make landfall.

Oh then the media are only doing their civic duty by warning everyone.
Uh huh.
"John, what do you think the chances are for real damage?"
"Well Joanna, the winds are going about....blah...blah."
Hurricane comes, damage is minimal, loss of life, maybe some homeless

people.
You can SEE the disappointment on the faces of the media members.
OR:
Newshack: "Doctor Franklin, what are the chances that the hurricane
will achieve
a rating of 4 by the time it hits land?"
Meteorologist: "Well, it is unlikely to do that owing to etc, etc, and
will likely only
skim edge of Florida."
Newshack looks crestfallen.

This storm will likely cause some damage in Florida, however the Media, like
CNN, turn it into a SpEcTaCuLaR visual Extravaganza with non stop AOLish,
gaudy whooshy, cymbal crashing graphics and canned theme music, with
generous helpings of popups, animated hurricane logos burning in and vying
for spact on the screen, and wet, blown about, soaked reporters yelling and
leaning in the wind. They are likely practising the dramatics for the
hurricanes to come as well.
