A conference was filmed in part by PBS whereby a group of academics and
others took the stage and criticized the fundamentalist interpretation
of the bible, their influence on the government in the U.S, etc.
But IMO, it was preaching to the converted (anti-fundamentalists)
because the speakers were
exactly the kind of people who annoy those who are self-cateogrized as

So your point is fundamentalist Christians should only have their
tactics, ideas and beliefs challenged by people that DON'T annoy them?

Pat Robertson deserves a critic that "can be taken seriously?"
Puh-leez. His world view could be desimated by Sesame Street's Elmo.

thing was that two of them at least pointed out that name-calling
(radical religious right, etc) weakened the cause of the
anti-Christians. A second point was that the Christian Right are
experts at getting their opinions out, because they are professional
at it. Some of the speakers at this forum were painful to listen to,
not because of the subject matter, but because they were horrible
speakers.

The most interesting thing, the name & when it might be on again, isn't in
the post, of course!! But, most conferences aren't meant for preaching

fundamentalism not about Christianity.

No, there was clear and umistakable criticism of Christian beliefs.
One speaker concentrated on denigrating them. One more reason
why no one wants to listen to them.

religious Right. Perfect.
A @$@@ foreigner finger-wagging at the Americans in their own country.
If they truly want to get points across to Christian fundamentalists,
to change their opinions,
they need to employ people who don't look like they just wandered in
from a peace rally.
They'll only be ignored.
