3finger...
TV Land is starting to air reruns of "Benson", and has launched it with
a 48-hour marathon this weekend. And watching Didi Conn (she played
Benson's secretary) in her first episode, I was reminded what a babe she
was back then. Great figure and cute New York accent.

ANIM8Rfsk...
You light up her life.

et472...
How do we remember this junk? I saw her name in the subject header
and right away I thought of that movie. Yet, I remember nothing else
and may not have known anything else (I sure never saw it) so I wouldn't
have posted without checking to make sure that I was indeed remembering
properly.

ANIM8Rfsk...
I've never seen it either but for some reason I've seen a ton of clips of
her singing it, but of course the only one we ever HEARD sing it was Debby

Actually, Ms. Boone didn't do the version in the movie. She covered the
song later. The movie version was Kacey Cisyk, according to the IMDB.

Rob Jensen...
IIRC, you got the chronology wrong -- Boone sang the version that
became a hit, then Conn lip-synched it for the quickie cash-in movie
afterward.

Default User...
You do not recall correctly.

Boone is best known for her 1977 cover of the movie theme of "You Light
Up My Life," which sold 4 million copies and spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on
the charts. (The song was lip-synced in the film by Didi Conn,
performing to vocals recorded by Kacey Cisyk.)

From the IMDB:

Trivia: All songs sung by Didi Conn in the movie were lip-synched. The
actual singer on the soundtrack album was Kacey Cisyk (often misspelled
as Cassie Cisyk) , who also appears in the film as a bridesmaid. Debby
Boone covered the title track, and her version spent 10 weeks at #1 on
the U.S. pop music charts in 1977.

A quote from Debby about the song:

Debby freely acknowledged that she had a spiritual, rather than a
romantic idea in mind when she recorded "You Light Up My Life."

"When I first heard the song, I knew it was probably written about a
male-female relationship, but I hadn't seen the movie. For me, it lent
itself to these spiritual feelings I was having."

From Songfacts:

This was featured in a movie of the same name written and directed by
Joseph Brooks, who was also a songwriter. Brooks needed a title song
for the movie, so he wrote this about halfway through the shoot.
At first, this was going to be sung by a jingle singer named Kasey
Cisyk, and she recorded the original version that was used in the film.
For over a year, no movie studio would release the film and no record
company would release the song. When the movie finally got picked up,
it was time to record the song as a single, and Brooks went with Debbie
Boone instead of Cisyk.

ANIM8Rfsk...
Yes, but I've never seen the movie. I've only seen clips of Conn (I assume)
lipsyncing, and heard Boone on the radio.

Default User...
So, the clips you saw of Didi lip-syncing had no sound?

ANIM8Rfsk...
I have no recollection of a voice coming out of Conn, although I can still
picture her 'singing'

There may or may not have been singing, and it may or may not have been
synced to her. I'm sure it was just a quick shot, not like I saw her doing
the whole song or a music video or something.

Boone.

All I really remember Didi from is 'Beauty School Dropout'

Ubiquitous...
Hee. And two future Star Trek characters.

Justin Pate...
I haven't seen her yet. What I like is in the intros of each episode
when they're showing "Directed by", etc..... that there are drum fills
in the theme song.

Ubiquitous...
Which reminds me... I never realized the producers of this show were
the same ones who created Soap and Golden Girls. The theme music
and filming is easily identifiable.
