Rob Jensen...
I agree that the CW appears to have nothing much that's far enough in
the new development stream to replace *anything* right now -- or
they'd already have something lined up to fill in the void that the
cancellation Runaway left after 7th Heaven on Sundays.

Okay, IIRC, they've definitely got one show -- Kevin Williamson's
Hiddlen Palms soap that's supposed to premiere at midseason -- but I
don't see them putting it on Sunday nights after 7H. Which tells me
that the net is just in the middle of deciding which show's timeslot
Palms is going to take -- VM's or OTH's. My bet at this point: Palms
takes OTH's Wednesday timeslot, OTH is bumped back to Tuesdays, where
it did okay-ish in its first season after Gg and VM is toast.

I'm confused by your message. Here's how I interpret it:
Sunday = 7th Heaven / nothing (rerun)
Tuesday = gilmore / one tree hill (veronica is canceled)
Wednesday = top model / palm springs (new)

Rob Jensen...
It's called Hidden Palms, not Palm Springs, but yes, that's what I was
saying. Perhaps OTH stays on Wednesdays, but even then HP is going to
displace VM.

And I say all of this as a fan of VM *and* somebody's who's already
predicting that Gg will (barring Lauren Graham wanting out, a scenario
that's less and less likely) go to s8.

Well, I hope your wrong. I'd rather keep Veronica Mars... especially
since it's my (and Stephen King's) favorite on CW.

What I'd like to see is something to fill the empty Sunday night slot,
and keep all the current shows until May 2007. Don't cancel any more
shows until Fall 2007.

Also, the CW keeps announcing a flurry of pilot committments and has
been since last May. I wouldn't be surprised if they've got got one
or two sacrificial lambs ala Pepper Dennis and Bedford Diaries last
year, but that seems more to me directed toward filling the hole that
they've got after 7H -- as well as the hole that 7H will likely leave
after it's finally cancelled for good at the end of this year.

OTH got a full season pick up.

shawn...
Well they have Traveler, but they seem to have no confidence in the
show for some reason since they already cut the order. Which confuses
the heck out of me since it was one of the best pilots out of the new
season.
Three of each, says TV Guide's Ausiello

shawn...
Yeah!!! I'm happy for more VM scripts..
lets hope that turns into more eps produced in the future.

Daniel Damouth...
Why is that every time I hear of a show getting "three more scripts
ordered", it means the show is very soon to be canceled?

Rob Jensen...
Because that's what it actually means -- except in the case of Studio
60, which got the three more scripts ordered, and then got its back
nine. S60's situation is more the exception than the rule.

E Brown...
Because when the networks are planning to keep a show, they order
"the back nine" - nine more episodes. At least we'll finish the
current arc.

William George Ferguson...
Ordering 'three more scripts' is a bet hedge by the network. The scripts
need to be commissioned at least three weeks before the start of production
(there are Director's Guild rules involved), so to prevent a break in
production if they do go ahead and order the back nine, they need to order
the scripts that would be shot in December by about this time. If they
decide not to extend, they're out the cost of the scripts. If they decide
to delay the desicion, they'll order the scripts to production (that's what
they did with Firefly), giving them to mid December to decide (because
there is almost always a break in production in the second half of December
anyway). Then if they decide not to extend they are out the cost of the
episodes.

So, sometime in the next two weeks they will do one of the following
order the back nine
order the three additional scripts to production but hold off on the back 9
pull the plug after 13

The last isn't more likely than the first right now.

Regarding option two: Wouldn't that be the back 6, since in scenario two
they have ordered 3 of the 9 already.

neon_06...
Like how I have said before. It's "Veronica Mars" vs. "One Tree Hill"
both shows are doing poorly. Right now "One Tree Hill" has the
upperhand since "Veronica Mars" ratings has been slipping. So we'll
see... *fingers crossed*
