Color me under whelmed. Part of the problem is that I saw the pilot
early last year. I can't help but compare the new actress to the job
that Winnifred (Amy Acker) did and think how much better that version

Amy Acker could have been in this project?!!! Sheesh.

She was in the project. Did the original version of this pilot episode
and did a wonderful job. Then, as Ian pointed out, Moonves got
involved and screwed up the casting by getting rid of Acker and got
this other person to do the job. The only thing I can figure is that
she wanted much less money than Acker, because she certainly is doing
less of a job than Acker did.
You should see if you can find a copy of the original pilot so you can
see the difference. I actually cared about the wife in the original
version, but not in this new version of the pilot. In the original
version Acker made it seem like she was truly overwhelmed by all that
was going on. The new version makes her seem whiney. I don't know if
that's just the new actress or if the script was changed because it's
been many months since I saw that original pilot.

Uh, that's not what happened, Shawn - Les Moonves *fired* Acker. She
didn't voluntarily "leave".
And, yes - the idea that Audrey Marie Anderson could fill Amy Acker's
shoes is completely laughable...

I'm noticing just stilted much of the dialogue seems to be. Maybe it
will be better after a few eps, but I wonder if it will get the
chance. After all CBS isn't really lacking in programming for next

Heh.
My brother-in-law pointed that out, as well. Then he commented that
it's David Mamet writing it, and he can't use profanity, so of course
it was stilted -- he'd lost half his vocabulary.

season so this show needs to do very well in the ratings to be brought
back.

I agree with all you posted. I doubt CBC will give this time to work out its
problems. I would guess they've filmed most of the eps in the contract by
now. CBS has a deep bench anyway.
