What a great classic "bullies are cowards in the end" story. I'd

Not really. The mercenaries from Ravenwood were outgunned, and the lead
guy knew it. He had to back down or risk the annihilation of his crew.

This won't be the last time we see him.

like to think the town came closer to being united this week, and would
like to see them come to the understanding that the old rules don't
apply anymore, but I suspect that's what much of the on going drama

If anything, the incident revealed a decided rift in the town - those
who are looking for immediate protection, and those who are looking
long-term.

It appears that the drama is going to be a soap opera about the failed
romances of the Green boys, punctuated with a crises that Jake solves,
Eric waffles over, and Johnston decisively sums up.

probably wouldn't have changed much, why didn't anyone ask these
mercenaries for some sort of proof that they were sent by the governmen

It seemed a little weird, the blonde's dad showed up with what 4 or 5
more guys and they suddenly go from bad-ass to backing down? Granted
they were now surrounded, but it just didn't seem like the odds
suddenly changed so drastically to me.

I think it gave their leader a good excuse to signal a retreat, out
of a situation that was already pretty bad for him, without losing
face.

Victor Velazquez...
Flanking maneuver for the win.

Mark Nobles...
I think Hawkins' laser on the leader's chest had something to do with
it, especially after his demonstration of taking out the sniper.

Good question. I really doubt they had proof, though.

Another question: Why didn't the lead mercenary seem in any way
concerned about locating Eric? In the initial contact with Stanley, the
mercenaries asked about him, but after that it seemed that they pretty
much forgot about him (and they didn't come to Jericho to loot the
supplies - they came for revenge). More muddled writing.

Anyone else imagine Jake becoming the next 'Road Warrior'? Is this the
society that the writers have in mind for future episodes?
