When the Colonel threw the soldier off of the Unit for his wife talking
about her husband in church can he really do that in reality?

BreadWithSpam...
He can transfer the guy for just about anything. he can't
discharge him from the military, but that's not what he did.

The spouse is a civilian and did has not sworn a military oath or falls

BreadWithSpam...
He can transfer the guy for just about anything. It
doesn't matter.

Besides, the spouse could only talk if the soldier had told her
things --- which means the soldier screwed up (in theory).

under military conduct. I know its recommended that spouses not talk
freely but legally can the military spouse be punished for what the
civilian spouse says?

Steven L....
If the wife is an obvious security risk, the soldier may be reassigned
to less critical duties. For example: During the Cold War, if they
found out that the soldier's wife belonged to the Communist Party, that
soldier would likely have lost his top-secret security clearance.

Do civilian spouses sign a form similar to those who work on military
contracts ie workers at Lockheed where they cannot talk about certain
stuff?

I just thought the colonel was way over the line with that wife and I
don't see how he legally could have kicked the husband off since she is
not part of the mlitary and just a civilian.

Of course ethically he is way, way over the line sleeping with one of
his officer's wives. Courtmartial offense possibly since he is sending
the husband on dangerous missions.

Steven L....
It's not just a question of ethics. It's also a way to leave the
Colonel vulnerable to blackmail by one of our enemies: "Colonel, we've
got photos of you sleeping with Tiffy Gerhardt. If you don't want those
photos made public, you'll have to supply us with some info we need...."

In this case, the Colonel got a wakeup call (no pun intended) that he
hasn't been too successful keeping his dalliances a secret. And that
makes him the biggest security risk of all.
