4.5 stars. They did the pilot right. Introduce the characters. Set the
background. Keep it simple. Just ask enough questions to make people come
back next week for the answers. If the producers don't screw it up, this
will be the first new Sci Fi series that could survive one season since
2005.

This show is about as riveting as "7th Heaven" and has more sap than a
Georgia pine.

Watch that speech again. It's much creepier on the second go-'round, IMO.
I think they may be setting McRaney up to be a "benevolent" dictator (and
Skeet as the son who will challenge him, naturally).

I got condescending out of it..in a fatherly kind of way...like he was
"father" to his people and wanted them to want him to be proud of them.
I'm not sure that it's creepy, but it definitely would set my teeth on
edge.

to the explosion quickly enough but then they didn't do anything that
hasn't been done in lots of disaster movies.

He'll have been a drifter, so he can be a jack-of-all-trades, but never
cottoned much to authority, so he'll have to learn lessons about leadership
along the way.

I wouldn't be so sure. One doesn't learn to do a juice-box straw
trachyotomy while drifting. He's been somewhere. That was one part I
found intriguing where he'd been since his story kept changing (you'd
think he'd know if you're going to lie at least keep your lie
consistant).
