Sure, long running hit-shows get the finale treatment but many also-rans
disappear without even a whimper.
Although a dreadful concept, Bochco's _Cop Rock_ had a surprisingly good
plotline. Though nothing could save it from the absurdity of having the
character's break into big song and dance numbers. Jarring to say the least
One nice touch - for a failed show - was the closure they gave it. They had
two characters come out-of-character with the one saying to the other 'They
cancelled it' and bemoaning how he didn't have the chance to do a musical
number of his own.
A nice touch for a failed show.

The short-lived series 'I Married Dora' did likewise. According to
'The Complete Directory to Prime Time Network and Cable TV Shows', the
last original telecast featured a final exchange, with Peter (the
father) preparing for a plane flight to Bahrain. The dialogue went
like this:
Peter: It's been canceled
Dora: The flight?
Peter: No, our series
At which point, the camera pulled back and everyone, cast and crew,
waved goodbye.
