TCM Goes West Coast
By Anne Becker
Turner Classic Movies will begin running a West Coast feed on May 1.

You know, this is not necessarily good news.
One of the things I appreciate about channels like Noggin (or the Disney
Channel East feed) is that you can get programming 3 hours earlier than
you otherwise would.
Personally, I don't think TCM needs the 2nd feed...

What does that mean, please?
Is it anything more significant than the existing feed, delayed by
three hours so as to be broadcast at the same clock time?

Nope, nothing more significant than that. But presumably cable
TV systems in the Pacific (and maybe Mountain?) time zones will
start using the Pacific feed, so when TCM says that a movie
begins at 8:00 p.m., viewers in the west will now see it at 8:00
instead of 5:00. Which is nice for people who haven't been home
from work in time to catch the evening movies, but as others have
pointed out, not nice for people who like seeing the evening
programming earlier.

It also makes things easier for TCM programming-wise. As it stands
now, if they want to show something for adults like, say, DELIVERANCE,
they have to program it at 1:00am in order to not have it air before
10:00pm on the West Coast. This way, they get to air it earlier on
the East Coast.

The new feed is a result of coordination by Turner Network
Sales--which currently runs West Coast feeds of TBS, TNT and Cartoon
Network--with several cable operators.
TCM, available in 70 million homes, runs classic movies from the Time
Warner and Turner film libraries. Upcoming programming includes Race &
Hollywood: Black Images in Film, a month-long film festival in May,
and Leading Ladies, a month-long film festival in June.
